Would you buy a movie on DVD right after seeing it theatrically?

Not for a pemium, no. I do however think there is a case for selling DVDs closer to release, for example maybe two weeks after the premiere. If the Watchmen DVD had been available two weeks after release I probably would have rushed out and bought it. Now, it's been talked to death, hyped in the media to death, and I'm sick of it without ever even having seen it.

As much as I might like a movie, I actually don't mind having to wait a little while to buy it on DVD/BD. I don't buy movies unless I definitely plan to re-watch them but even when I do purchase movies I typically don't re-watch most of the frequently, aside from some of the Star Wars movies and Transformers The Movie (1986), so it's not like I would re-watch whatever I just saw at the theater again for awhile in most instances anyway, although I AM quite eager to see Star Trek again once it's released (but I can wait). Having to wait, I think, makes the payoff that much sweeter when I actually DO buy it.

Not a chance would I pay over the odds for a substandard product in full knowledge that a better product will be out in a few months.

I rarely even buy a DVD on release date because there'll usually be a directors cut/special edition for the same price a few months on.

I couldn't see this idea taking off. What's to stop all your mates coming round and watching the DVD version rather than going to the cinema?

$30 is too much considering DVDs are near the end of their lifespan. But I'd have paid $20 for Star Trek XI or Dark Knight right after seeing it in the theater.

^^ I would strongly disagree that DVD's are near the end of their lifespan, but that's a debate for another thread.

I do agree $30 is a lot, but like I said in my OP, in theory you need to price it high and keep it barebones so you don't piss off the retail outlets. The more I mull it over though, the more I like Mike Farley's idea above to include a coupon for any future version of the movie...
