WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension lasted?

WesleysDisciple

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Just a curious question?

Would voyager have been better if one or two acts caused Chakotay to GRUDGINLY reassess his opinion of Paris, rather then to completely bury it?

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

It would have been fun to watch but it wouldn't have made sense. They were stuck together, possibly for seventy-some years, they should be making the best of it ASAP.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

And his previous opinion of the man being completely removed by a single act, DID make sense?

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

If it lasted, it would of grew tiresome.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

I can't even remember the tension that's how long it lasted!

And yes, it would have grown tiresome. Trek was often fail at such.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

Had B'Elanna come betwixt Paris and Chakotay, that would've been the kind of tension that could last ... and last! Nothing like a woman to cause even the best of friends to become Mortal Enemies ...

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

It should've lasted longer than one episode along with the Starfleet/Maquis tension that petered out by the middle of episode two.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

If he'd continued as Locarno, it might have made sense since Locarno was a shady character

But they changed him into loveable, cheeky chappy Paris by episode two...so it didn't matter anymore

I was more surprised that they tried to turn him back into Locarno for the sake of the episodes building up to "investigations" (that felt totally unconvincing)

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

Chakotay/Tom-No

.....but I wouldn't have minded if the played out the tension between Chakotay & Tuvok for a season. The tension between Tom & Chuckles was fake, Tom was only doing it under orders from Janeway but the animosity between Chuck & Tuvok was real. Chakotay felt tricked by him and Tuvok was so smug about it, you could see in the first few eps Chakotay hated him. I didn't feel it ever got proper resolution.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

The problem with this is that Paris proved his loyalty rather early on in the series. If they kept Paris as somebody who shirked his duty and did stuff his own way, preserving the tension would make sense. But as it was presented by the viewer, Paris's loyalty was beyond reproach and it wouldn't make any sense if Chakotay, seeing what we saw, kept questioning it.

Yeah, it would make Chakotay come off as a bully and an asshole.

That would mean the writers of VOY actually giving a damn about anything BS (Before Seven), or being permitted to bring it forward and develop it by the PTB--a flaw that was endemic to the entire series.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

I do think the Paris/Chakotay tensions could've gone on a bit longer, but there wasn't enough between them to last more than a season, especially since both of them had been established as moral men with principles (Paris wavered a little, but owned up to his mistakes). I could see it lasting one season with the tensions wrapped up by the first season finale but not more than that.

The tensions between the Maquis and Tuvok should have lasted longer, I agree on that.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

I would have liked to see more tension

Sexy tension.

... AGREED!!! What's all that T&A on the show for, if not some Sexual Tension to spice up the scripts? And we got precious little of that. Surprising how that can happen, especially in a STAR TREK series ...

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

Remember that time 7 sat down slowly at the hearthside next to the Captain?

I remember that time.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

Remember a TV guide saying tuvok became the "keeper of the peace" But see no evidence of that in the show... other then disturbing hte peace with stupid suggestions like court martialing torres, which while rules correct, is probaly a bad idea.

or making the "Insurrection" Holodeck program.

Am curious, is it safe to say if he'd ran that he'd have had the presence of mind to point out "this programs existence is not to be discussed, especialy with former members of the maquis, its only a precaution, let us all hope Im being overly cautious.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

He was the unnecessarily pointy burr of logic in the human's sides, which is what they did with all Vulcans.
