Would Shebly have worked as Captain?

I think DS9 would have been more interesting with Shelby as CO. Let's talk about that.

I just get this feeling that Shelby would have kept making tricolbalt devices. Remember her background is in weapons technology and administration. What she could bring to the table personally from the R&D work she'd spearheaded toward the destruction of the Borg would have turned Voyager into a freaky scary gunship that no one but no one and especially backward knuckle draggers like the Kazon would have f(*&^d with her Voyager a second time.

Not saying that she's kill crazy, just that if Shelby starts a fight she finishes it... Unlike some people who let it drag on for 2 years.

I think she and Cavit would've gotten along just fine--and that would've been the problem. She would never have bent from her SF ideals and make Chak her XO.
Except that, y'know, Cavit was kinda busy being dead. :p

I meant before he died. I never got the impression that Janeway was all that fond of Cavit. Especially after he dissed Tom, since Tom was her reclamation project.

We see Cavit for barely five minutes or thereabouts. We don't have a lot to go on on what Janeway thought of him or what Shelby thought of him.

But no. I can't see Shelby being a big improvement over Janeway, or an improvement at all.

Well that's just because the same scripts with the same lines would have been put into Shelby's mouth from a production viewpoint.

Bingo. Which makes it boil down to Dennehy versus Mulgrew. What is so great about Dennehy, exactly?

Captain Shelby and 7 of 9, no no no way to much chest with the two women in a face off and hands behind her back.

Shelby had chest? My eyes didn't draw past her lock jaw.

I'll have to review the best of both worlds and pay more attention to her bosoms.

Seriously, the reason that Shelby is interesting is that she's toaster and Riker is the toast.

Oh my Gods! You mean...she's a frakking Cylon?!

No. it's a metaphor from the pilot of Carpoolers which means she gets on top like a cowgirl.

Carpoolers is a delightfully funny sitcom. :)

Totally Freudian, but it was 20 years ago.

I'm a boy, and I don't have the same boobs I had 5 years ago.

I'm a girl, and I am not going to talk about mine

Um, please? ;)

And, behold the boobage. Nothin' special to me, but...meh.

Now I know what she planned to knock Riker out of the way with! :D

Glad she was not going to try to nock Seven of Nine out ... it would be interesting

actually, i always wondered how Susan Gibney, who had played Dr. Leah Brahms on TNG and later would be Capt. Erika Benteen on DS9, would have been if she had gotten the role of Janeway, which she was up for.

People,

I think it might have worked, but I do like Kate Mulgrew's Janeway.

More importantly, how would Riker have been as Captain? Wasn't he up for the big chair of Voyager, according to the Q ep, "Death Wish"?

Yes, Q does say he expected Riker to get the command.

You know what would have been really, really cool?

William Riker as the Captain.

Tom Riker as the Maquis X-O.

;)
