Would green people be discriminated against?

don't know where this would belong, so I put it here...

So in Star Trek there are green people, for all intents and purposes they look and act like humans from North America, but have green skin. Do you think these people would face bigotry and harrassment? Or would they assimilate better into American culture then humans from other parts of Earth? Would you want that green chick from Trek IX moving in next door? There was nothing at all alien about her aside from her skin color. And what if she has her green relatives over every weekend? What if a slave ship (ala Alien Nation) of green people arrived on Earth and these green people took refuge on our planet because they had nowhere else to go?

Would people make racist green people jokes?

(OK this thread is part tongue in cheek, but actually also serious)

A major factor in this question is the origin of the green people, but the short answer is yes.

Are you asking in our contemporary society? Or the Star Trek future society?

The answer is, if they act like a bunch of antisocial jerks, then yes.

Along these lines, there's a bit they filmed but cut from Trek 11 where Kirk apologizes to "Gaila," only to realize about a minute in that it isn't the green girl he was banging. It's funny, but also paints Kirk as rather ignorant, so it's best that they left it out...

There is no discrimination against green people in Star Trek. Just against people with skin that's white on the right side and black on the left.

Do I still get the green girl as a neighbor?

Not if I see her first.

OT, yes. Humans currently need very little difference between themselves and someone else to begin practicing bigotry. What that difference would be is different for everyone. Green-skinned alien is about as different as you could get.

In the TNG version of humanity? No. In non-TNG federation, probably. Would I want her moving in next door? Most definitely. If a slave ship of refugee green people arrived on modern Earth and had no where else to go? I imagine it would be like "District 9".

There once was a race of humans with green skin, but they were drivan to extiction by the other races. :(
