Then it would be a matter of if the showrunners actually care about using those names (provided that they’re even aware of them...when was the last time Duane published a Star Trek novel?), especially since the attention garnered from those names would focus on someone else rather than them. Don’t underestimate writer ego.

Well, they may have adapted the secret names thing from her books already. Though it was kinda hinted at in TOS before that, which is probably where Diane got the idea from.
