Would Arlen Spector PLEASE STFU!

After the NFLs investigation of the Spygate scandal with the Patriots, it seemed it would be over, but now Arlen Freaking Spector wants a new, independent investigation. Does this man really have this much time on his hands? Really, its at the point of fucking insanity. I am a Pats fan so I am biased, but I do admit what they did was wrong, and that they deserved to be punished. But COME ON! Spector is just pissed that his Eagles lost the Superbowl to the Pats a few years ago, and he sees this as an chance for revenge. Do you think that the people who voted for this man, did so, so he could devote all his time to an investigation of a team, that isnt even from his own state, or even an investigation of any team for that matter. Its getting insane. Its over Spector, they were caught, punished, now have a black eye, and its over. Sorry the so called more evidence didn't add up huh.

You would think that with all this time the government is dedicating to this and Roger Clemens they would have fixed the economy, brought peace to the middle east and found a new source of cheap reusable fuel to replace oil.

I'm pissed off that the Eagles lost too, but an investigation would accomplish absolutely nothing (I think that, even though we didn't learn everything they did, it'll be impossible to learn more).

For Congress to run an investigation, it needs to have a legislative purpose (McGrain v. Dougherty). I honestly can't see what law could be passed having to do with what the Patriots did (what they did isn't against US laws and shouldn't be, it's just against the rules of the NFL). Just because you don't like what happened doesn't mean you have the Constitutional authority to do this and it definitely doesn't mean you should waste tax payer money doing this.

The legislative purpose is to determine whether the NFL should keep its antitrust exemption....which allows all the teams to collectively bargain on things like TV broadcast rights. If the league allows cheating, then why should they be given special treatment that other industries don't get?, or so the thinking goes.

That said, I still don't think this is really worth Congress's time.

Woops, I didn't realize the NFL had an antitrust exemption. Still a waste, but at least a constitutional waste.

Even that rationale only holds water if Specter wants to investigate cheating in the NFL as a whole. It's pretty clear that the Pats weren't the only ones with their hands in the cookie jar, they were just the only ones to get caught so far. But he's made it pretty clear that he just wants to look at the Patriots. In other words, it's just a witch hunt.

Actually it would be a witch hunt if he wanted to look at every NFL team even if there was no evidence pointing to particular teams. Since we know the Patriots cheated, it's not a witch hunt to look further at them to discover the depths of their cheating.

Not that I agree with what Senator Specter is doing. Let's just assume the worst case here and that Specter is right, the Patriots cheated, and it's worse than is generally known. It's the NFL commissioner's job to stop it and punish them, not the job of Congress.

what ever with saying he wont issue any new sanctions against the pats now that a totally different form of breaking league rules /cheating (using players on ir to practice) has come to light goodell has lost even more creditbility.

he did say after all if new enlgands confession back in the fall wasnt complete then he would throw the book at them.

especially after his performance about protecting the nfl from cheating he put on during the owners meeting.

"As the Commissioner and Competition Committee, we must take every appropriate step to safeguard the integrity of the NFL," Goodell wrote in the memo. "We have already taken some positive and significant actions this past season, but we must go further to ensure fair competition amongst our 32 teams and maintain public confidence in our game."

i mean letting players that are on ir practice and doing so knowing you are cheating(the pats posted lookouts so they would know when league officials were coming around) certainly sounds different then what the pats admitted to back in the fall.

but. goodell personal friend of kraft read the part about kraft
is just going to try and sweep this latest scandal under the rug.

it was a joke when goodell took away the lesser of the two draft picks and this one is an entire comedy act.
