That's... awesome.

B5's very low production value was one of the things that put me off. The visual effects didn't even look good to me back then.
YMMV, but I personally found Babylon 5 to be an entertaining, but mostly, disappointing show.

i'm a huge trek fan. i've seen all of VOY/ENT, a good portion of TNG and all of S7 of DS9 and a few eps from earlier in the show.
i've heard DS9 was a stolen, or at least, a carbon copy version of B5. i really disliked watching the crew dynamics at quark's; in fact i'll almost always fast forward through these scenes and any scene to do with the prophets/pahwraiths. i loved the scenes with the JemHadar, and especially the ones focused on them like 6x02 'rocks and shoals'. but really enjoyed the battles between the starships, and the same goes for every scene featuring the dominion.
Judging by this I can safely say that B5 isn't for you. Yes there are some stellar battles in the show, but it's far more character orientated, with characterisation one of it's highlights (despite the tendency for character monologues).TNG was great because of the awesome characters like data and picard and all of the exploring they did as a crew.
i'm just not sure if i'd like B5 if there's too much talking and not enough exploring/fighting. i also love anything to do with the robots and real science fiction.
Let me put it this way: Babylon 5 would be the best thing that ever happened to Science Fiction if it hadn't been for Star Trek.
An enjoyable diversion, nothing more. There's actually a lengthy list of better skiffy material on TV over the last twenty years including but not limited to Farscape,
An iffy show that ejected technobabble and replaced it with religibabble, which is even worse. The characterisation was also of soap opera mentality. When I say soap opera, I mean soap opera, not like one of those emotionally challenged sci-fi fans who thinks a character crying makes it a soap.Battlestar Galactica,
While one or two stories may have had science fiction elements, Buffy was not science fiction.Buffy,
Agreed to a point. While Doctor Who is currently one of my top favourite shows shows (and has been on and off since the classic series), it's not really something I can get my teeth into. Thank god the characterisation has improved since the old days though. In some ways anyway.Doctor Who
A decent show with a reasonably good cast of characters, that suffered from easily predictable Joss Whedon characterisation. Mileage may vary on the later depending on how much experience you have of Joss Whedons writing. Note I'm not saying the characterisation is bad, it's just rather easy to predict given there are less ways to play against a cliche and/or trope situation, then there is to go along with it.and Firefly.
Yea, as a fan, regardless who may have stolen from who or when, DS9 and B5 are 2 of my all time favorite SciFi sseries, and I am grateful both of them were made and are in my personal DVD collectionLeave the "who stole from whom" crap for other fourms.

If you really like robots you could try a Gundam or a Macross series as long as you don't mind anything animated.ReadyAndWilling said:i also love anything to do with the robots and real science fiction.

I'd have to agree with this. It may not have been perfect, but the sum of the good far outweighed the sum of the bad - just like Star Trek.
