Time Travel Trek

...or was it Time Trek Travel.... Trek Time Travel.... some combination of those 3 words

I voted for the Voyage Home. It was a decent movie, bud defiantly the worst of the time travel related plots.

I picked the remake seeing as it has not been released yet, and seeing as Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home, Star Trek - Generations and Star Trek - First Contact are all excellent films

^That's hardly fair. How can you vote against something you haven't even seen?
The unknown sucks ;)

Of these 4 TVH is the worst movie, but First Contact far and away takes the prize for worth Time Travel concept, first the Borg travel all the way to earth THEN time travel, the Enterprise just happens to hop in, and at the end of the movie easily recreates the effect to return to the right time.

Please.

Not strictly time travel, but what about the huge plot holes regarding how quickly the Enterprise-A got to the centre of the galaxy? There was definitely a bit of the old chroniton flux being used there :p

As much as it pains me... First Contact probably leaves me scratching my head the most. Apart from the whole issue of why you'd get to Earth, THEN go back in time... why do the Borg only ever send one ship against Earth when it's been mentioned in Voyager that they'll send whole fleets to assimilate planets. With regards to them easily recreating the effect to return to the 24th century - correct me if I'm wrong, but they're missing a deflector dish at this point aren't they? Isn't that normally where all these magical beams are formed?

On the other hand. A probe that travelled the galaxy to talk to a whale? Hmmm...

True, but in TOS, it seemed that the entire galaxy was within the reach of the Federation. How many times did the Enterprise even go so far as to travel beyond the galaxy? I can think of at least two occasions. This was before all the "quadrants" stuff was made up.

So I'd say TFF wasn't THAT out of sync with the spirit of TOS

Generations.

What happened: Picard goes back during the fight scene with Kirk to defeat Soren.

What should've happened: Picard goes back to the start of the movie, sends a signal warning his uncle and nephew about their impending demise, then waits until Soren is aboard and in Ten-Forward then simply arrests him.

that argument always reminds me of Scott Evil's in Austin Powers:

Scott: "why not just go back in time and shoot him while he's on the crapper or something?"
Dr. Evil: "you just don't get it, do ya, scotty?"

Because the 1701-D would still be there and intact at the end of Generations up to the rolling credits:)

First Contact by a long shot. As said before, why they decided to travel all the way to Earth and get their cube blown to shit by the Federation before travelling back is beyond stupid. If they had a whole cube back in the 21st century, even if the Enterprise managed to follow them back, Earth would be screwed.

Not to mention we hear all this talk of post-apocalyptic, post atomic horrors Earth and all we see are some damn Ozark Trail tents and tin shacks in the middle of nowhere. Where's the nuclear winter? Where's the roaming hoards of nomads scrounging for materials and food and gas? So many wasted opportunities.

Generations gets my vote.

First Contact was the most complicated, sure, but at least our heroes didn't have a choice in the matter.

The Voyage Home used time travel simply as an excuse for our heroes to interact with 20th Century Earth, to very charming and wonderful results. Any time you use time travel as a means to tell a story, and not as the substitute FOR a story, then it's done right. My only gripe about First Contact is that we didn't really see much intergenerational story going on (yes, we had Lily, alcohol, and booze, but that was about it).

First Contact was awful and whenever I hear someone praise it I think less of them as a human being.

Borg Weak Spot
Borg Queen
Hive instead of a collective
Crap Cochran
Lily sucks
Enterprise E is ugly
Action hero Picard
A plot that makes no sense
Drunken Troi

Ya know what I am going to stop listing stuff now because I could go on all day. I still find it incredible that this crap is praised as much as it was. The Borg movie was the movie everyone wanted and we got THAT? First Contact was pretty much a Voyager movie with the TNG cast.
