It wasn't just Solok. His whole crew went along with it and no one stood up and had the guts to point out that it was wrong to badger Sisko and his crew that way.

His crew were happy (well, as happy as Vulcans get) to socialize pleasantly with the Niners after the game, though. So it's entirely possible that they were unaware that Solok was essentially harassing Sisko, and that they honestly thought it was simply a friendly competition.

Yeah it was just one of quite a few times where the writers of DS9 made the future seem a little less perfect just for the hell of it, like Kassidy's father being a "pastor"...ugh.

Kassidy did not say her father was a pastor. She said that her father would prefer that her marriage to Benjamin be conducted by a pastor, not that he was a pastor.

It's probably inaccurate to call Vulcans, Betazoids, and other fellow Federation members "allies" of Humanity. They're no more "allies" of Humans than Yankees are "allies" of Sounterners, or than New Englanders are "allies" of Californians. They're all part of the same Federation.

I have to agree that the Klingons are unworthy allies. There is something very, very problematic with the Federation supporting an empire that conquers and slaughters (but somehow it's OK since it's not on the Federation border ) yet daring to criticize that behavior from others.

Actually I really love that part about the Federation/Klingon alliance. One of the few things about the Federation that's believable.
