Worms Reloaded (Rant)

Oh for fuck's sake.

Each time I hear about a new Worms game I pray that this is the game where Team 17 finally moves on from Worms 2 and injects new gameplay into the series: allowing players to create specialist worms with different strengths/weaknesses and weapons loudouts, persistent characters with consequences from one map to the next, currency/upgrade paths, and so on. But I'm forever disappointed as they invariably shit out another iteration of Worms 2.

This time around my heart almost skipped a beat when I glimpsed the word 'customisation' in the press release. Could this be it? No, no it couldn't:

Wild customisation and personalization - change appearance of worm skin, choose victory dances, gravestones, voices, HUD, title and over 70 different cute, funny and downright stupid hats!

Fuck you, Team 17. One of these days they're going to have to come clean and admit that the sole designer on staff died in 1997 of a heart attack.
 
Anyway...I gave up playing the Worms games when they went over to 3D, admittedly I do have Worms 3D and Worms Forts: Under Seige but other than Worms Open Warfare, I haven't played the franchise in ages.

So I'm actually looking forward to getting back into it again with Reloaded, it looks pretty decent, the trailer shows a few new gimmicks like magnets on the landscape that deflect or attract certain weapons, automatic field guns that fire at any worm in range etc.

I mean Worms was never a high-brow game in the first place, there isn't much you can actually do with it, just a fun little shoot-em-up with a twist, the soldiers being Worms in your back garden, nothing to get so upset over.
