World of Warcraft: BATTLE FOR AZEROTH

Soon is Soon. I think I may have played "Strand of the Ancients" for the last time as a random battleground. And for the first time in a long time, I actually carried the flag in Warsong Gulch. We even won (the only thing my flag carrying did was deny them a place to put our flag long enough for us to kill their flag carrier).

Sort of trying to reacgh Prestige Rank 2 before 8.0 happens. Still have another 8 levels to reach it. Off work on Monday, so I'll probably hit the PvP scene hard that day, since 8.0 will probably drop on Tuesday in the lead up to August 13th-14th.

I took two months off, one from boredom and one from being overseas. Now I'm back and have spent the last week clearing out banks, selling crap, upgrading all the legendaries in void storage which I never got around to upgrading and generally doing office work in prep for BfA. Nothing else to do.

Was hoping there would be more pvp stuff to do but.. can't even find my pvp rank panel ?! I had maxed it at 25 two months ago but now I can't see it, I hope there's not something I could be doing. It's just NOT THERE.

Did the Centaur reps so now have 97 reps at exalted. Hopefully can see which are the quickest with Bfa and get my blue unicorn for 100 reps. Kind of excited about that as it seems I have been plugging away at reps for a long time in the dark  It's nice to get something. Will admit I'm relieved there doesn't (yet) seem to be a pvp rep for Bfa as the pvp reps, particularly Talon's Vengeance were a special kind of hell.

Your PVP rank show in the tab to join battlegrounds and the like (raid finder/dungeon finder/battleground finder thing). Mine is Honor level 10, which translates to Prestige Rank 2. Also all your characters PVP ranks were converted into one overall rank. The different tabs in the pvp/battlegrounds tab show different stats on the right hand side.

War Mode is now a thing. You can only turn in one in your capital city, but you can be flagged for PVP by getting yourself attacked by PVP flagged NPCs just like before, but for five minutes. War Mode puts you in a specific PVP shard, so the only people there are people that want to PVP, (or think they can use it to level faster because of the XP boost it gives, plus the extra talents being active).

All your Honor talents are unlocked and you get to pick which ones get used for War Mode, but only three talents and the one trinket-like talent as the fourth slot.

Centaur reps can go to Exalted, though I don't know if I can do them since I finished those quests a long ass time ago. The end quest now gives something ridiculous like 44,000 rep for both factions.

You can do them, they hotfixed it so all you do is show up and talk to a dude and BAM you are exalted with both of them. That's if you did the quests post-Cata. If they hadn't added in these insta reps the only people who would get the 100 reps would be those who'd done the now discontinued ones so I guess that makes sense.

Thanks for the rank tip, that is different. Are they still going to use the word prestige? Because I don't see that anywhere atm. Says I am Honor level 130 and the next level is 150. AND IT APPEARS WE CAN GO FORWARD? Because when I mouse over it it says "honor 772/8800". Well if that's the case I now know what I'm doing until launch yay

Just Honor Level now.

Also, Damn Blizzard, you do know how to tell a story....now do it....IN GAME!

SO TRUE.

Quite lackluster set of quests this week, nice to hang with Sylvanas again but otherwise.. but yeah, tell it in game.

What was the Alliance quests like?

Well do report back. I considered paying for a boost for one of my alliance this time (have used up the freebie) So I could see some of this from the start but thanks to exchange rates and my governments recent decision to tax stuff that wasn't taxed before it's 80 dollars so nah. Had convinced myself I could quickly level one that was high but now that there's PVP to be had my continual alt failure is obvious.

Sets up for what looks like a massive conflict from the Elves point of view. Starting with some assassins in Astranaar and the town basically dead. Wisps everywhere from the huge loss of life. You met what I guess is a new NPC Sentinel who is the one we are running around with (my guess is Sylvanas will mortally wounder her just before the tree goes up in flame, and the two elves will have a small talk before the Night Elf dies, Sylvanas' plans not quite coming out as expected). Then we go see Malfurion at the Wall'o Wisps, starring down Sylvanas. Than some missions to rally the druids and ancients. Figure out why the local Furbolg just went hostile, and attempt to correct the problem (Horde invasion, plus captured leaders makes bearmen unhappy campers). Then Azerite pops up, so you have to deal with that before the Horde gets too much of it. A stand off happens at a river where you get to ride and Ancient into battle. Malfurion thinks they can hold here for a little while, but they need more troops. Goes back to Darnassus to rally the rest of the Druids, Sentinels, and Priests to come to war. By the time you get done, the Fleet that was sent off to Silithis has returned. The Night Elves are ready for war and intend to try to hold out until more troops can arrive from Stormwnd (which is where you were sent from by portal after SI:7 found out the Horde move towards Silithis was fake and they had turned north to Ashenvale.) After that, you get World Quests. Some repeat the quests you just did, others are different. I suspect more next week as we wind up to just what happened to the World Tree.

World Quests seem to give ilvl 210 and 220 gear. The staff that dropped was slightly better than my depowered Artifact weapon (which depowered to 207 due to having lower ilvl relics that had good effects prior to the depowering).

New rule: Never tell the Banshee Queen she can't do something. Even if its something she really shouldn't want to do as it gives her a disadvantage or mess up her own plans. She'll just up and do it to prove you wrong.

Alliance side of the quests are more or less the same/opposite of the Horde quests....until the fire starts. Than you get to try, desperately to save as many people as you can (which is an impossible quest), before having a final farewell to Teldrassil, and then you can see first hand what happens to the survivors in Stormwind. King Anduin Wrynn is not happy about this, but he's also not giving up.

I don't think it has been posted yet, Blizz did a Dev Watercooler post about Classic WoW back in June with some fascinating insight into their process.

Classic WoW will be based on 1.12 (smart decision IMHO).
The first—and among the most important—decision we had to make was which version of the game to focus on. As many of you have noted, the classic period was two years long and full of changes. Core features like Battlegrounds were introduced in patches after WoW’s original launch, and class design similarly changed over time. After careful consideration, we decided on Patch 1.12: Drums of War as our foundation, because it represents the most complete version of the classic experience.
aaand it's going to run on the current day backend, which is kind of an insane achievement if they pull this off (which they seem very confident in being able to do, as they are talking about this openly)
So we asked ourselves, would it still be possible to deliver an authentic classic experience if we took our modern code, with all its back-end improvements and changes, and used it to process the Patch 1.12 game data? While that might seem counterintuitive, this would inherently include classic systems like skill ranks, old quests and terrain, talents, and so on, while later features like Transmog and Achievements would effectively not exist because they were entirely absent from the data. After weeks of R&D, experimentation, and prototyping, we were confident we could deliver the classic WoW content and gameplay without sacrificing the literally millions of hours put in to back-end development over the past 13 years.
in any case, I think it's very cool that they're being this transparent about the project, which is not something Blizzard has really excelled in in the past

What are you enjoying most so far (we are a week away from the release date).

Battle for Lorderon is tomorrow.

I'm really looking fwd to the return of Horde vs Alliance and even though it is written shoddily shit has BURNED so we have actual reasons to hate each other. The intense loyalty to a side and the smaller, more political nature of the conflict is very refreshing to me, I'm enjoying not having an overwhelming evil the world must unite against. Rather, we are the evil.

I know it's not going to stay like that, some horrible god or titan or fel thingy is going to rise up and we will all have to hold hands and kumbaya it to death but that will be quite some patches in the future

I also have NO IDEA what they will do with Sylvanas, it's positively tension filled ! So this is cool.
