World not ending in 2012, says NASA

Well we know the poles flip every so often on earth, and we are overdue, so couldn't this happen in 2012? It could be a large object in a Haley's comet like elliptical orbit does a close pass to earth in 2012 and their poles repel each other causing earth to get a new earth pole and cause dramatic geological damage. The book Worlds in Collision by Immanuel Velikovsky makes a convincing case base on historical records that something is coming up...

Except the poles don't flip instantaneously, and the process really wouldn't cause that much trouble in any case.

Who cares what NASA says!?

Are you people gonna believe the lying bastards who faked the Moon landing!?

I look forward to reading your humble admissions of error in 2013 when the world does end in 2012, and you've all been proved wrong.

Oh, wait....

I think it's of greater note that NASA has apparently gained the ability to prove a negative.

That's the thing, if the world did end we'd all be in the same boat, so nothing and no one to worry about it afterwards. So no point worrying about it before either ;)

However the possibility of a huge natural disaster (that could kill hundreds of thousands) can never be ruled out - there are Earthquakes and Super volcanoes that could shift any time, if anything they maybe overdue. Sooner or later* something is going to happen. No reason to blindly believe otherwise.

*but again if it's 500 years from now we'll all be long past caring.

We're scheduled to pay off our car in 2013, and I have plans for a vacation condo with the extra cash that will free up; so this is good news.

Well, I never trust anything NASA (stands for Never a Straight Answer) says, but the world wil lnot end in 2012...I think, actually, there will be new beginings. The whole end of the world bit is an overated western idea.

It's like the death card in tarrot...it actually means new beginings...to those people who think the death card ment the end of everything, to quote the Doctor, "You watch too much television." :P

My curiosity is this: How did the Mayans know something's gonna happen? I think someone told them. Just who that could be is the interesting bit. :)

Theres a whole wikipedia article about the mayan calander and their "predictions" The calander doesn't end, just the current cycle. The mayan calander goes on and on and on. Mayan experts, who studied this their whole lives mind you, say the mayans attached no special meaning to this date. They even had predictions that take place after 2012! ...:

I'm with Timothy on this one. I have read multiple books about 2012 and the conclusion that I have come to is that 2012 is the end of the current cycle, or "world age" as noted by authors like Gregg Braden. The problem, IMHO, is that there is too much money to be made by those who would exploit fear and paranoia for their own benefit. I have an open mind that something will happen in 2012, I just do not believe it is the end of the world. Regardless of whether you are looking a this from a religious or scientific perspective, change is the one constant in the universe. Everything changes. All things in life are cyclical - things begin and end. Thus what will happen in 2012, is not something that we can say for certain. We just know that the cycle of life continues as it always has.

If the world ends today, NASA are going to end up looking like idiots. I hope that doesn't happen. At all.

I found this news earlier this morning..I fucking already knew that world's not going to end!!! Any thoughts on that?

Oh dear.

Is there something wrong with my comments? I'm very angry that they believed that world will end in 2012, I keep on to telling them that it's not going to happening, they choose not to listening to me at all, let alone world end in 2012.

Supreme: The problem is, Legend, under a different screen name, started a thread in TNZ where he postulated a complicated and convoluted theory involving why the world will end at a precise time on Dec. 21st, 2012. It's a crackpot theory, as indicated by the scientist quoted in your O.P., as are all these nutty doomsday scenarios. Hell, there've been many end-is-near predictions, like back in 1987 -- we're still here -- and there was hysteria surrounding Y2K, also, remember? -- RR

^ Do your research on 2012 and learn the difference between previous FAKE end of world predictions and this one.
We are entering the Age of Aquarius as mentioned in the Bible, a time of change, a time the Mayans were aware of too.
We are also on the last Vatican pope before the end of days as prophecised by St Malachy. in 2012 we not only get the Galactic alignment with the Galactic Equator but the Sun enters it's most energetic phase. Those aware of global warming will know this warming is affecting the entire solar system, the Sun is already going through a transitional phase and so too shall we in 2012.
