World in Conflict

Canadave

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I just picked this up today, since I got my tax rebate and I'd had my eye on it for a while. I'm not very far into it, only on mission five (Battle of Cascade Falls), but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's got a great feel, and some of the most convincing urban combat I've ever seen in an RTS... it's weird\cool watching a small town slowly get leveled as the Americans and Soviets work to bombard the hell out of one another. It also does a great job of convincing you are part of a large battle, as with shifting objectives throughout the battle, and consistent chatter from other allied commanders.

I've yet to try out the multiplayer, but if it's as awesome as the single player, I'm looking forwards to it! Anyone else here have it?

I picked it up day one and haven't opened it... now the collector's edition is cheap and I wish I just waited, so that I could have a piece of the Berlin Wall.

I like what they've done with the genre. It just seemed more streamlined than Company of Heroes, which is already pretty fast. I just need to find the time to play it...

That GC Trailer with the Audioslave song is awesome though. Bad ass.

I've never played CoH, but I did play Ground Control, and this is a huge improvement. Much more exciting and "in your face".

I love World in Conflict, it's easily one of my all time favorite RTS games of all time.

The single player is especially great. The storyline is epic, and I actually knew all of the characters names (which never happens for me in RTSs, usually I don't care or remember what their names are).

CoH is pretty intense... but there's still a bit of base management. Resources and game play is all control point based, so you can't turtle at all... you have to push out, and it creates natural fronts.

Loved the game and the Soviet campaign that you can download look like it'll be fun, cause who dosen't want to roll over the Americans?

I consider World in Conflict to be the top RTS at present time. No harvest/farm, units doing reverse, and all those artillery/bombardment choices are just marvellous.

Yeah, you don't have to worry about a base and stuff like that, but you still need to do stuff like watch your infantry closely (and often micromanage their movement), set targets for artillery bombardments, stuff like that, which I can't imagine being easy on a console.
