World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

We've got a number of projector screens up around the business, but it came down to a simple point, I'd rather be in the pub with mates effing and jeffing while sinking a few!

Go US! Go England!

The only benefit of being unemployed at this time is sitting on the couch watching all the games.

Right. A few surprises in the lineup for England. Milner and Defoe are replacing Lennon and Heskey.

I really hope Milner does better than the crap performance he put in against the USA, although I understand he wasn't feeling great in that match.

Upson is taking our feared centre-back position. We've been through 3 of those already with Ferdinand, King and Carragher. Upson is pretty much at the bottom of the pecking order, although I hope he'll do better than Carragher in the role. I think he has a bit more pace.

The rest of the squad I was completely expecting to turn up.
James, Johnson, Cole and Gerrard are the only England players that have impressed me so far, while I hope that the others can put on a better performance than against Algeria.

Reports from the BBC say that they're really acting serious this time round. Good news, but every game in the World Cup should be serious. Did they think that Algeria was just a practice or something?

So it's still 4-4-2 with Gerrard stuck on the left wing.

Brilliant.

I placed a bet on 0-0 for a laugh. I'm probably gonna make some money now.

The way it's listed on the BBC with: Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, sounds like Gerrard's in the middle with Lampard with Milner and Barry out on the right and left wings. Not sure, but since the defenders are listed going from Johnson to Cole, it seems we have the infamous Lampard-Gerrard pairing in the center.

And now, according to the screen at the stadium, its Gerrard on the right, Milner on the left, and Lampard and Barry in the middle.

Can they make up their minds so I can give some accurate information? :sigh:

And I hope for the opposite. ;)
I want the US, Slovenia and Ghana to get through (I don't care wether the 4th one is Australia or Serbia).

I hope both England and Germany win today.

Yeh, same, except I'm also hoping that they both manage to come top of their group, so we avoid each other in the round of 16. I'd rather not see either of us going out early.

I'm hoping for England, Germany, Ghana, and anyone else from Group C.

Almost time, I'd better go and switch the TV on.

I would just find it extremely hilarious if Slovenia and Algeria made it through after not be given any chance.

True. Though Algeria really doesn't deserve it, in my opinion. I usually do have a heart for the outsiders but not in those cases...

England in red, hooray! I wonder why they ever gave up on their classic shirt design.

Again a question as a newbie football fan, does anyone take John Terry seriously, especially after the whole sleeping with teammates' wives' fiasco?
