Work has begun!

Bob Orci announced on Trekmovie.com a few days ago that casting for ST3 had begun, and a few hours ago John Eaves (concept artist, probably most famously designer of the Enterprise-E) announced on Facebook that he's begun work on the next Star Trek movie, his eighth.

I guess that first draft script met with Paramount's approval.:)

John Eaves ...designer ... NX-01

Hold up – the NX-01 was Doug Drexler's baby. Eaves only did some alternate design sketches that were rejected.

As for the rest...eh. I wish I were more excited than I am, but the thought of another Trek movie isn't doing it for me. I liked STID well enough, but not enough, I guess, to make me hungry for more from the same team.

Meh. Eaves is a nice guy, but his ship designs all look the same, and they're far more applicable to late 24th century post-Nemesis TNG rather than early 23rd century TOS.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me remind you all that we live in an amazing age when a brand new Star Trek movie is being gifted to us and also that Zachary Quinto is incredibly hot.

I am surprised it is even taken so long. Trek is is going too slow.

Batman v Superman comes out in 2016 along with xmen apocalypse and they are already filming both films. Singer, the director of xmen even tweeted the script for xmen and there has been numerous pictures of batman v superman been released even a small teaser.

so trek needs to speed up. things are going way to slow, as unbelievable as it is , 2016, which is 2 years from now is not a long time.

I will hate for the film to feel rushed.

I didn't care for STID. The only reason I'm looking forward to the next movie is because hopefully it will end the trilogy. I want to see Star Trek back on TV where it belongs.

The problem with doing a movie every several years is that the same formula is used. Angry villain hell bent on revenge, lots of space battles and explosions. Our heroes saving the day at the end. I'm tired of it.

If they do bring it back to TV, I hope they get all new writers, someone who is familiar with Trek but can bring in new ideas, if such a thing exists.

In honor of the TrekBBS, I've already pledged to give the movie a preemptive "F" on whatever future poll is posted. ;)

Maybe they're counting his art department credit on Star Trek Renegades. ;)

As for Star Trek 13...I wish I could be excited, but y'know. My money is on Axanar at this point. I do hope ST13 (aka Star Trek Across The Universe) turns out to be good though.

This is the million dollar question. I am glad there appears to be continual progress being made on the movie, but when will it get released? With so many movies already slated for 2016, where do you slot it in? The summer months are loaded pretty heavily and IIRC, movies released in the fall don't fare so well. They could release it on Sep 8th for the anniversary, but that would probably be disastrous for the box office.

August will be the best time, Just look at Guardians of the galaxy. the film made so much money because it came out at a time with no competition.

Agreed on all points. He's really fond of the turkey-from-the-top design of starships as well.

W00t. I'm stoked.

I'm really looking forward to another exciting adventure with Kirk, Spock and McCoy. :D
