Worf's Winningest Season

WAMTNG

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Dear TrekBBS folks,
I'm coming up to "Q Who" on WAMTNG next week (Wednesday 29th March), and in writing up the WAM I somehow missed that Worf defeats the first Borg to appear on the Enterprise-D. Correcting this oversight, I make it that his score for season 2 is Worf 2, Aliens 1 (counting the fight with Anya in "The Dauphin" as a loss, which might be controversial). I don't think he fights anyone in personal combat from that point until the end of the season, which means contrary to his 1-4 defeat in season one (counting Lore as playing for the aliens), season two is a winning season for Worf! (Note that I don't count the holographic characters he defeats in "Where Silence Has Lease" or "The Emissary", as they're only holograms.)

Anyone care to check my bean counting on this...? There's definitely some cases (like Anya) where another referee might rule differently!

Your thoughts on Worf's 'winningest season' most welcome in this thread!

Maybe season 1 - I don't recall many victories, but it's the one where they introduce "when monster of the week blows down the big bad Worf".

Or season 2, since - despite in initial melee - he still holds his own verbally against Anya and, indeed, shows a sense of rapport atop the respect he gives her formidability (which seems mutual).

WORF: I will escort you to transporter room six.
ANYA: You will be happy to see me leave.
WORF: No. You are a worthy opponent.
ANYA: Thank you. At heart, we are very much alike.
WORF: Yes, we are.
ANYA: Perhaps we shall fight again. On the same side.
WORF: It would be an honour. Shall we go?

:luvlove:

I don't think it got better than that.

There are so many reasons to love this episode, for both direct dialogue and what various scenes imply. (The contamination was not as much physical but of emotional consideration, which Salia and Wesley ultimately prove in what is a reasonably decent twist.)

I'm not sure what this is all about.
Sorry if it's not clear! Short version: Worf gets the crap beaten out of him in so many episodes. But - very rarely! - he wins. So for each season, we can track his score in wins versus loses. For season one, I made it Worf 1, Aliens 4. For season two, I make it Worf 2, Aliens 1. That would mean - incredibly! - Worf wins in season two. (I didn't think he'd win in ANY season when I started!)

I thought I'd ask if anyone has any opinions on those season 2 fights that might mean he doesn't get a winning season that year, and also if I'd missed any fights.

I guess we're not counting all the times Worf got beaten in poker as losses. ;)
It doesn't count as a loss unless Michael Dorn ends up lying on the floor - which I guess could happen after a poker loss, but I'm pretty sure we never see that happen! :klingon:

Well, he always wins on the holodeck :guffaw:

As far as Anya is concerned, I would call that a draw. It certainly seems like Anya would win but we really don't know.

Aye, I definitely toyed with counting that as a draw. It's certainly one of those rare cases where they don't take the opportunity to lay him flat on his ass! :)

Forget aliens, in season 1 he was promoted to security chief, that's his biggest win. Before that he was the bridge toilet guard (that's my head canon, don't take it away from me).
Oh my goodness, that's made my Friday!

Well, Worf was killing it in poker in "The Emissary". So that could also be another form of victory for season 2. :)

Realistically, Worf shouldn't have gotten beaten as often as he did in TNG. DS9 corrected this by making it the exact opposite... he rarely lost. Given his skill and physicality, DS9 treated his traits with more respect.

Having said that, Worf did get some victories in TNG...

Season 3 - wins: knocked out Romulan, helped curtail the ambush from the Gatherers, Roga Danar (with help from Riker), stopped two people from slugging it out in "Sarek" (had them both by the collar at the same time), a couple Borg when on the cube
Losses: Roga Danar part 2 (in the cargo bay), Ansata terrorist on bridge

Season 4 - wins: a few Borg when he and Data rescued Picard and he also killed Duras.
Losses: possessed Troi breaks his wrist and Guy on horseback injuring his arm.

Season 5 - wins: Romulan that had him at gunpoint, helping deliver Molly (I am calling this a win for him :) ), a supremely heavy beam on Alexander's leg, one smack knockout of Jev, J'naii guard
Losses: Duras sisters' minions capture him, possessed O'Brien, possessed Troi (I feel like this could be a trope: 'possessed Troi beats Worf'), a container

Season 6 - wins: Data hologram of Eli's father, Cardassian guards, several Borg
Losses: Ferengi (worst loss possible for him), shot in the arm by Data hologram, Cardassian guard shoots him in arm, Romulans at camp

Season 7 - wins: several Borg, a couple Klingons in "Firstborn"
Losses: Picard in "Genesis"

"Back to your post, Ensign Crusher! You spend way too much time in there when Ensign Lefler is on the bridge!"

"Belay that order, Ensign Crusher."

I would in fact still count the holograms, as Worf is very likely to practice without safeties on.
