Review: THE WOLVERINE Aims High But Falls Just Short

I can't speak for everyone, but after a summer full of crumbling cities, robots, monsters, and the loudest sound effects I can remember, I felt the need to brace myself as I sat down to another big-budget action spectacle. Thankfully, with a smaller budget, a script concerned with characters (or at least one) and a more atmospheric mise-en-scene, The Wolverine, while still a summer tentpole, is in many ways the antidote to the maelstrom of destruction that's occurred in the multiplexes this season. However, while loaded with good intentions, James Mangold's addition to the X-Men series is nevertheless the victim of a few too many compromises.

Checked imdb and it says the earliest The Wolverine is scheduled to be released is on July 24, 2013 in various international markets, which is still a week away. I'll give it a a day or two before starting a grading topic.

How is Silver Samurai's armour a spoiler though? We've seen bits and pieces of it in the trailers. Looks terrific though.

Not the complete thing though. Did it for the people who still want to be a little surprised. :)

So are telling me the villain is a Samurai dressed in silver???? You just ruined the movie for me! Unless the picture is a surprise and its a ninja in gold.
 
He does look great. The reviews are not gushing but not bad either. That its a summer action film that is restrained and does not go over board in its spectacle is refreshing!
