WOLVERINE director search down to 8

Summer 2012 is going to be busy and packed with The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Men In Black III and The Bourne Legacy (not to mention tons more). I think spring or summer 2013 would be more appropriate (and on top of that, summer 2013 is already getting full with the addition of Thor 2 and Iron Man 3).
Yeah, you're right, summer 2012 is already packed, and Fox has Prometheus, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Ice Age: Continental Drift set for that summer. They likely don't need another tentpole for summer 2012.
Summer 2013 seems more ideal at this point. It can come out late May 2013, after Iron Man 3, which is usually when X-Men films come out anyway.
I believe Fast & Furious 6 is slated for late May 2013, so it might not be a good idea to put The Wolverine up against it.

Yes, it will be filming in Vancouver. My guess is the situation in Japan has made things difficult to shoot which is unfortunate but not unexpected given the severity of what happened. A release date is yet to be announced but I wouldn't be surprise if we got a late 2012 or early 2013 date for "The Wolverine". The last reports I read were that Fox wants this out in 2012.

Looks like they have to find some Japanese or Asian gardens to shoot at. Or build fake pagodas, temples, etc.

We have plenty of Asian cultural centers here so that shouldn't be a problem at all. Vancouver is one of the most mulch-cultural cities in North America and we have a very high Asian population so the production where the Japanese story is concerned should fit right in. I still remain excited and hopeful that this film won't repeat the mistakes the first did.

Which is predominantly Chinese and Indian. I wasn't talking about the people moreso than the locations. I mean could the forests of the Pacific Northwest pass as the forests of Japan? I'm sure they could gather B-Roll of location shots of some of the more ancient landmarks in Japan. Where was The Last Samurai shot?

The Last Samurai was primarily shot in New Zealand. Both Japan and the Pacific Northwest have temperate climates with mountainous terrain and similar types of forest (I believe), so Vancouver should be a passable substitute for Japan.

Our harbor could more than pass for Madipoor if that is where they want to set the film in. Or even rural Japan. Yeah, locations shouldn't be a problem.

I've lived in Japan and in Northern California. There is a certain similarity.

^ Yeah. The article states that Variety claims that the character will be rewritten, under secretary to Japan's Foreign Minister I think.
