Personally, I like the idea of Jack the Ripper being an energy being named Redjac a lot better than I like the idea of him being cryogenically preserved and then being hired as an inquisitor for the Vorlons (see Babylon 5)!

An OK episode...sort of a "Murder she wrote" in space...stupid because we know that in the end it will not be Scotty, so we have to guess who the real murderer is...and of course its the little squirly guy...WOW that was hard to figure out.
 
It gets a 6 from me. Nothing special here, although it was nice for Scotty to get some more screen time.
 
I enjoyed it as a kid, and I still enjoy it now. Makes for a much better Halloween episode than fucking "Catspaw" any day.

Like has been said, it's nice for Scotty to get some screen time other than as the Enterprise grease monkey. We see that he's a big fan of the booty, which fits.

His anger toward women, blaming them all for a blow to the head, is a little stupid. A lot stupid, actually: like he's going to go shooting up a Luby's restaurant in Texas or something.

My favorite bit is the old Trek stand-by from the computer, when it is listing mass murderers: list two known entities and then throw in Biggus Dickus of Rigel VII.

Not great but good
Has a nice story but the "body hopping" by Rejac and the round table séance gets a little cheesy. Including the dialog of the possessed Enterprise computer. The crew getting "smashed by a shot" to thwart the entity is a nice touch and when Spock pushes Transporter Chief Kyle in the transporter room. Sulu feeling a "little gloomy" :(

This episode was cool.. A murder mystery yes, but not too bad.

I think the best line was: "Whoever he was, he sounds pretty Gloomy..." out of Sulu high on the shot from doctor Mccoy... Made it have some humor too it.
 
But is anyone under the impression that Scotty actually put the knife in all those women? Or did Redjac "cloud his mind" long enought to do the dirty deed (as Hengist) and then put the knife in Scotty's hand?

I don't think Redjac "invaded" Scotty's body and had him murder anyone. Not my Scotty! What's next, pushing drugs?
 
Oh, I'm firmly of the mind that Scotty's hand committed the first two murders. Hengist's hand simply provided the murder weapon in advance, while Redjac made sure that Hengist's body had a reasonably good alibi for the crimes. (In case of Scotty, though, Redjac thought it had found such a perfect fall guy that he became sloppy with the alibi part.)

As for the third murder, the person best placed to commit it, by the seating order of the people around that flame, would be Dr McCoy...

That would be Redjac's MO: take control of a single body for a time, with the option of leaving previous victims of such visitations in a state of deathlike catatonia. While Redjac was having fun plunging knives into ladies, or sabotaging starship systems, Hengist would be slumped over his chair or behind a dumpster somewhere.
