WNMHGB remastered

You're using the same reasons the original effects aren't 2001 quality and must be replaced--time and money--to rationalize why the new stuff sometimes falls short.

Oh, the irony...

Well, I don't see CBS/Paramount doing any more effects upgrades in the forseeable future. This seems to be it...the move to bring TOS visually in line with most of the rest of the franchise and once TOS Remastered is complete early next year that's probably going to be it in terms of tweaking TOS for as long as I can tell.

Once they are done with TOS it's off to do the same with TNG, let's see who's heads implode from that idea.

* Anyone, Anyone ? *

Oddly enough, I don't see that many people going ballistic or even weakly opposing it. I figure all but every TNG fan would be behind it, even if I can't express exactly why I feel that.

I don't see why anyone's head should implode at that.

That project promises to be a good deal more challenging than TOS has been, though.

All the more reason for them to put the time and resources into getting it right visually and conceptually instead of juxtaposing great shots with ones that look like a plastic model jinking around (as in the leaving the Barrier shot in WNMHGB).

The only reason the updating team is under time constraints is because CBamount chose that course. Had they seen it as worthwhile they could have set the releases to be spread out over three instead of two years or they could have locked everyone in a room and shoved cash and cold cuts under the door until the team announced they had updated all 79 shows to the point of perfection. Instead we're getting a rush job which shows us some beautiful work and some crap.

That's the TV business. Always has been.

They want TOS-R done before the new movie comes out.

TOS-R is on hiatus and the complaints are now beating the dead horse of Where No Man Has Gone Before-R.

:guffaw:

I would love TNG-R to be announced. Bring out the popcorn.

TNG---especially the first two seasons(1987-89)---can use some really good new CGI to update some of those "meh" looking planets and ships that were the product of the hit-and-miss late '80s revolution in TV special effects.

At least it appears TREK XI will stick to established TOS canon, so we don't have to start looking at Remastered TREK in some "altered timeline" light that doesn't jibe with the new movie. To that degree, none of the digital updates will have been a waste of time since the entire franchise still seems to be sticking together.

I'm just miffed that they didn't airbrush out the strings attached to the cup of water and the phaser rifle.

Oh please. I've never seen those strings. It's a very successful effect.

I can never see that, even in freeze frame.

I used to not be able to see them myself, however with the remastered version I can, which doesn't make them infallible.
