wireless PDA? Really?

Say, I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction, as I'm at my wit's end here.

I live by my PDA, a heretofore beloved model called the Axim X30. Love the thing, but I recently got it in my head to try and use its wireless capabilities. I consider myself fairly adept at some of this stuff, but I hit a wall here. Are there any good resources to walk me through this, Dummies-style? I can't for the life of me get it to work, and I thought some techies her might know...

:(

The stuff is usually pretty similar for a PDA as it for a regular PC with wifi so if you're done that sort of of setup before it's fine.

IF you can't connect full stop check the AP isn't set to use MAC address filtering. If it is then you'll have to add the MAC of the PDA to the AP's list.

Point to note however is that ActiveSync no longer supports synch of data over Wifi. Microsoft dropped it 18 moths - 2 years ago on the grounds it was was to insecure. So if you want to sync contacts, e-mail etc it's bluetooth or cable.

Look for a PPC program called "Hitchhiker". It makes connecting to APs much easier than the default PPC "connections" settings.

With Hitchhiker, you enable wi-fi, and start Hitchhiker. It looks for available access points in your surroundings. You can add security settings for encrypted APs, or if you're running unsecured, it'll just hook up and go.

Thanks. It came with something called Odyssey, which seems to be performing a similar task, and I seem to have got it working, though I have no idea how. :) Let's see if I can reproduce the results on something other than my home system. I had this image of being able to link in at places that have wifi like coffeeshops, but I guess that's BS....

No it's not BS - it's pretty kosher the only problem is that wifi can sometimes be a pain in the arse to get up and running.

In most cases if they a broadcasting an SSID (the information the identifies the wireless netowrk) then the PDA should be able to pick it up.

I have an old HP Ipaq and can easily pick up various wifi hotspots in my city.

Truth be known I'm not sure why people want to browse the web on PDAs etc - the screens are too damned small.
