I think it is a bit of genius that CBS essentially had Netflix paying for their ramp up. Netflix is helping create a competitor in its biggest market.
For netflix even though so many on here want to say they are doing right by the rest of the world the reality is they are paying that to do the exact same thing CBS is doing get people to subscribe.
Let's look at the number. Star Trek on netflix is going to 118 countries give or take. That WHOLE international market has fewer current subscribers then north america. In the US over 50% of people have netflix. Rest of the world is 30% or so at most (varies from country to country obviously). So outside of the US somebody is more likely to not have netflix then to have netflix. So they are using Star Trek as a hook to get more new subscribers for Netflix because for them the international market is their big growth market. They are about saturated in the US and room for growth is much smaller..
The safety word is "nacelle"
Okay, the safety word is "quadrotriticale". And you have to pronounce it right. What if someone accidentally says: "Oh, my! That's a big nacelle you've got there!"? (Which in the case of the Discovery is true.)
Yes. It's pronounced "wheat".Okay, the safety word is "quadrotriticale". And you have to pronounce it right.
For sure. Netflix was desperate to get Star Trek on their service because the previous series, apparently moreso TNG and VOY, get a lot of views.Pretty crazy Netflix is paying for most of it, but CBS are showing it in the US. Netflix in the UK has a ton of Star Trek, I think all the series and some of the movies so they must have looked at the subs/viewers they have brought in and thought it was worth it?
Business decisions don't always line up with fandom expectations.Yup, but to some, CBS is the "Big Bad" that is trying to make a logical business-decision with a product
Not sure I'll forgive that engineering parlanceWhat if someone accidentally says: "Oh, my! That's a big nacelle you've got there!"? (Which in the case of the Discovery is true.)
