WIP- The Seeker

Part of the idea was to be inspired by prototypes cars/planes and such. I did some research on the internet to get a feel for the general look. My original concept in 2d had much more sharp curves, but in 3d I found it very hard to do.

Here is the correction I made for the windows. I found a coffee script that makes round holes into a shape easier in Cinema4d. You can find the video and links here: http://vimeo.com/14452520
I just can't believe how hard it was to find...that doesn't solve the problem for a square with round corners window, but maybe there is a way with the collapse...would be easier to find another script.

At first, I didn't like her very much. Too many curves, and almost no angles. But as you've worked on her, she has started to look good. All those curves still look unusual to me, but in an exotic sort of way, and the fact they make her unique isn't a bad thing.

I think something still needs to be done with that deflector dish, because I think it looks, ya know, weird. Though I can understand how when you work in a certain program, it isn't an easy thing to find that certain feature to allow you to do what you would like.

I noticed that this time you used all caps for your registry, which is a definite improvement. Though there should be a - between the 1 and the A, and there should be a U.S.S. before the name of the ship, since it seems quite apparent to me that she is a Starfleet vessel.

I'm also curious what class the original The Seeker was. Perhaps she was a Tikopai sub-class (a variation of the Constitution refit), if I had to go by her registry?

I did the U.S.S but I forgot to do it in the Alpha texture...something I need to fix. AS for the dish, well...making any boolean operation in that place didn't ended well with the model, especially visually. So I tried to do something over it, didn't look good. Finally I did a design in Illustrator, import in eps, and cut it with extrude pro...and work my way in. I would probably do it differently now, but that depends if I want to go there again. I lost almost 8 hours trying to find how to do it.

Class ? I don't know...I didn't think about it. I guess it would fit with the design of my Enterprise F: http://membre.oricom.ca/komaro/3d_10.html
which is a Velocity Class. There are similarities between the two of them.

If the Minbari contracted with the Federation for starship construction, this is what Starfleet would be driving. Beautiful!

Well, it is good to know that you didn't overlook the prefix and deflector dish.

But the original Starship The Seeker being a Velocity class sounds way too late for a registry in the 1800 range, which sounds like something around TMP era. Unless you misread my last post, and thought I wanted to know the class name of THIS The Seeker.

I wanted to know what class the original U.S.S. The Seeker NCC-1801 was, the ship that this The Seeker is apparently named after.

Though I would also like to know the class name of this The Seeker as well. Not that there would be necessarily anything wrong with The Seeker being the first of her class.

And yes, the Minbari and Federation probably would get along well, though I think the Federation would be hesitant with allowing the Minbari membership (if they wanted it), with how their society is set up like a cast system. Not very democratic. Though I'd like to think that they might have eventually jointly designed a starship class, similar to how some fans have speculated on Klingon-Federation hybrid designs.

All that is left are the lighting emanating from the ship. After that maybe an animation of some sort.

I have done some lighting on the ship. 4 spotlights, 5 warning blue lights. The pics are without main lighting, except the last one, with an omni light.

So, officially I am done with the ship. I want to make a presentation movie for the ship + a wallpaper render.

Next project unknow. I would really like to make another wormhole, but I want to study how to do it in C4d with particles effects.

This is a presentation vidéo for the USS Seeker:

This is a futuristic Star Trek ship named USS Seeker, Velocity Class. Made in Cinema 4D , around 36 hours. The animation is fast but it's only for a presentation. It took 5 hours to render.

To follow later, a HD wallpaper

I can see that you changed the registry to NCC-1901-C. I implore that you change it back to NCC-1801, because this conflicts with the Leavenworth class, the lead ship of which: the U.S.S. Leavenworth has the registry of NCC-1901-B, but keep the C, since this suggests that there was three other vessels to carry the name, and I'm very curious to learn about the history of the namesake, and which classes that the other four ships were.

Like I said before, the design is very appropriate for a starship of the distant future. I would like to know when the class was first put into service, though if I had to guess, I would have to say early to mid 25th Century.

I've had a question since I first saw this one. What's the idea/story behind the structure on top of the saucer that elongates beyond the saucer tip?

The concept came in part from this image:

I know it's a bit far fetch to apply it to a space ship. At first I tried it inverted, meaning the bigger part in front with the nose pointing inward. But it was nicer pointing in front. I have modified it, so that it can look more solid and functional.

As for the side of the nose (Darker wings). They come from various concept planes. The little towers comes from an ecologic design regarding buildings at the 67' Expos in Montreal (For inspiration).
