WIP - My take on the TOS Enterprise.

Just an update, lots of small details done, almost time to start cutting windows (:borg:) then on to texture maps...

Agreed, that really is looking very nice.

If I can push my luck with one more suggestion: Try experimenting with a slightly larger radius for the hangar deck clamshell doors to more fully fill in the hangar deck opening at the fantail.

I didn't fall off the face of the earth, I've been busy lately, I did start over on the Enterprise though, because the mesh was such a mess it was hard to cut windows for it.

Here is the newer, cleaner, more detailed version I'm working on...

Nice. :) I really like the glow in that image.

I never understood why the windows aren't symmetrical on the VIP deck (or whatever it's called. :) ).

You know I wondered about that too. But here's the deal....I commute to work via public transit and the train I ride goes over a bridge that's right next to big loading dock where grain is dumped into huge trans-Pacific bulk carrier ships. Every day that there's a ship docked (and when there is, it's usually there for a few days) I check out all the details on the ship. This is cause I'm obsessed with modeling spaceships and I want to see how real industry answers certain problems so I can take that thinking forward to sci-fi ships. I've noticed the portholes on the superstructure are almost never symmetrical. This makes sense as different things are going on on the port and starboard sides inside a real ship. I don't see why that should not be true for a starship as well. In fact, I think it makes it seem more realistic. More than simply mirroring the other side in a modeling program anyway.

Of course the real reason for the Enterprise is that there were windows added to the model when it was refurbished for the production run of the series. But these were only added on one side as only one side was really needed for filming. So the other side preserves the (fewer) windows form the original configuration. So it's not just the 'Command Gondola' (as I like to call it), but indeed that whole side of the ship. The lower saucer windows are asymmetrical too. But since the other side was shown on screen via flipped film print, I'm comfortable assuming that the "real" engineering hull and dorsal structure had symmetrical windows, otherwise it would seem rather bare over there!

Your milage may vary.

Also, I'm not usually a big fan of lit up warp nacelles for the TOS E but you've handled it tastefully enough. I like the white much more than that tired old god-awful blue!

Gorgeous!!!!

I want to do my redesign on 3DSM.
I could see this ship on the big screen now with modifications is the right areas...
It's just amazing what you've done.

I'm done cutting all the windows, I just haven't had time to do a proper render with work and such. I'm going to add all the running lights and whatnot next, then on to textures...
