Willy Wonka Prequal Movie Extravaganza

I'm going to end up watching this because I love the original, but who was asking for a Wonka origin story?!

They really should have left it alone after the original with Wilder, it's pretty much a perfect movie and will be extremelly difficult to improve on or add anything new that adds to the viewing experience.

That's just my opinion anways. Hopefully I'm wrong and this new one will be great.

The CG looks pretty obvious, but still glad to see the return of the orange oompa-loompa and not the Tim Burton dressed ones which reminded me of Woody Allen as the sperm costumes dyed red.

I'm still cautiously optimistic but Hugh Grant's Oompa Lompah (no matter how well he plays the role, as evidenced here) takes a lot of wind out of my sails.

It definitely looks like a Holiday Movie. I'm not entirely liking Grant as an Oompa Lompaa though. Not entirely sure why.

It feels kind of weird that they're positioning it as a prequel to the Wilder movie. That movie (to me) implied that the Wonka factory was just a normal one until people kept trying to steal his candy-making secrets so he shut it down for years. Then he started up production again (behind closed doors though) after finding the Oompa Loompas, leading to his "magical" approach to it all.
My read could be way off though.

Either way, I hope for the best but I have a feeling this one isn't for me.

It's been a while since I watched the original movie, but I always assumed it was always the way we saw it in the movie. I think this looks like it could be fun.

I liked this trailer better than the previous. It looks to be doing its own thing in a different direction which seems like a better idea than trying to ape the original again.
