It was but it wasn't a really relevant or fair jab.
All those rude things directed towards Shatner are directly linked to his history with the particular subject, his history in Trek and his history in the public spotlight in general.
Things that don't apply to random fans of Trek on the internet when faced with a similar question.

I think the Tholians could get Shatner's Mirror Kirk to JJ Abrams universe. In the reimagined Mirror Universe, no one inspires Spock to become Emperor, so Kirk lives to a ripe old age, and gets into a battle with the Tholians, and like the USS Defiant, he gets sent over to the Abrams Trek Universe.

If this story were to have been filmed, the Enterprise NX-01 would have encountered Tiberius in the 22nd century, who had been deposited there forty years earlier. In an attempt to return to the mirror universe, using the transporter of the Enterprise, Archer and Tiberius end up creating the mirror universe in the first place, as a diverging timeline.
