William Shatner is ready to return to Star Trek

That didn't stop James Doohan from reprising his role as Scotty. And nobody cared that Doohan was overweight because they were just happy to see him again.
I wonder if it has to do with the fact that Kirk is the macho action star. It doesn't matter as much if Scotty is fat.

Shatner really needs to accept the fact that he's not going to be the main character in a new Star Trek.

He might get a cameo (which he doesn't want), but even that would be pushing it. Resurrecting his character (something which has been done too often in Trek anyway) wouldn't make sense from a story point of view. Why did he age? Why does he seem so different? What makes him relevant enough to bring back for a new story with new characters? Even in the Trek universe, you can't just wave all of these questions away.

If Shatner can get in shape like Harrison Ford, then I wouldn't mind seeing him onscreen. My nostalgia has limits; an actor of Shatner's magnitude needs to be in shape.

Like Shatner did about why he thought Nimoy stopped talking to him?

What's that about, Keeps? I hadn't heard about Shat and Nim falling out! I know there was some heat between them back in the sixties at one time but not that it had got that bad at least!

I'm sorry. I should not have said anything about that topic on this thread, it's running on quite a few others.

Back to topic. I think his time as Kirk is past its expiration date.

Shatner could be of use being a producer or guest writer or director for the new Star Trek series before he passes away.
