William Shatner Backs LeVar Burton for Permanent 'Jeopardy!' Host

One of many guest hosts. Most seemed ill advised and just plain bad choices. LeVar was one of several that seemed like a good fit.

I would love for Levar to earn this role. Not only has he been a phenomenal role modal, but he is clearly passionate about the show itself. I don't own a cable subscription so I'm not sure how to "Tune in" (hell, I don't even know what channel Jeopardy airs on lol) - but im surely going to find a way to boost the ratings.

YouTube has numerous clips and even the entire episode.

Pretty please with sugar and a sugar-free cherry on top keep him full time. Clearly a jaw-droppingly great natural, he doesn't need lame background wallpaper muzak to be engaging.

Trebek was great, but I liked him better on "Battlestars" as his personality shone through more strongly (though his style on Jeopardy was obviously iconic as well.)

I hope they keep Burton.

also, where'd he get that gray beard from? Someone de-age him 25 years, please!

There was an episode where he had one, don't remember which. It wasn't second season, because Dr. Crusher was present.

He's not getting rave reviews outside his fanbase. Example (link).
I read Ken Levine's blog frequently, and I would have to agree with his assessment. By no means was LeVar Burton the worst (that's agreed to be Dr. Oz), but he didn't particularly impress me, either. He was trying to be energetic, but that energy needs to come from the contestants, whereas the host sets the tone of the room. LeVar was energetic to the point where it became distracting. The host is a crucial element of the show, but the contestants are supposed to be the stars.

Burton certainly could've improved with more time, but if the week of shows he did is any indication, I will be surprised if he were made host full-time.
