William Shatner: ‘I don’t know’ George Takei anymore

The Green Berets probably should have made George a star, but he had the bad luck of thinking a supporting role in a John Wayne movie about a contemporary unpopular war would be good for his image.

It seems that George has learned from his past mistakes and bad luck, and has evolved into a fine self-promoter. ;)

Without Shatner, Takei would've been forgotten long ago.

The only Shatner/Takei aspect that would have put Takei in the limelight is the roast where Takei was semi-serious/semi-comedic on his feelings towards Shatner. Everything else concerning 'who he is' today, based on my knowledge of the Takei, has been his outspoken attitude on Facebook and his outspoken attitude on LGBT rights.

And, to be fair, Shatner isn't so widely known to the greater public. (No, Trek sites aren't the greater public believe it or not...;))Yeah, there are some casual people who know of Trek and know of 'Captain Kirk' and the face of Shatner, but couldn't put the actor's name to the character.

Too, I'm sure there are those who would be more inclined to associate Chris Pine with Captain Kirk than William Shatner due to the new films.

It's possible that Shatner may be better known to younger audiences as Denny Crane than Kirk nowadays. :(

It was perfect casting when Shatner played The Big Giant Head on Third Rock from the Sun.

It didn't help that The Green Berets was a bad film, one that has shown up on various worst-film lists, and that it deservedly maintains a reputation as such.

hmmmm I wonder if Shatner would go to Takei's funeral out of respect and I wonder if Takei would do the same if Shatner passes away.
