Will you have the Swine Flu shot?

Will you be having the Swine Flu shot

An investigation by the World Health Organisation is now underway looking at whether there was an over-reaction and whether pressure from the vacine makers may of played a role.

It wouldn't be the first time the flu vaccine companies have stirred things up to make more money. A few years back in Australia there was news report that it was going to be a bad flu season and people should get their shots. Turned out that it was the government or doctors saying that, it was the drug companies.

THE WORLD Health Organisation is to examine its handling of the swine flu pandemic after accusations that it exaggerated the dangers of the virus under pressure from drug companies.
The United Nations health agency will review the way it dealt with the outbreak of swine flu once the pandemic has subsided, WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said.
“Criticism is part of an outbreak cycle. We expect and indeed welcome criticism and the chance to discuss it,” she said, adding the WHOs review would involve independent outside experts and that its results would be made public.

And from the otherside

HEALTH experts are warning that Australians can expect a second wave of swine flu, possibly as early as the beginning of the school year just a fortnight away. With a new report finding Australia's public health response failed to prevent the H1N1 pandemic last year - and that mass casualties and a collapse of the health system would have resulted had it not been a benign strain - the Australian Medical Association has said it is likely swine flu will strike again.
AMA vice-president Steven Hambleton, a member of the national pandemic planning committee, said yesterday it would be difficult to prevent a "second wave" as the virus was again sweeping the northern hemisphere.

I got the shot today.

So far, nadda in terms of reactions. I don't even have the muscle ache that usually follows the seasonal flu shot for a few hours.

I had much less side effects from it (as opposed to the regular seasonal flu shot) as well.

Eh, the mercury I avoided by never developing the taste for tuna more than makes up for any minuscule quantity a vaccine might contain.

A tuna sandwich with white tuna that contains .31 ug of mercury per gram. A 4 ounce tuna sandwich would therefore contain 52.7 ug of mercury. A typical vaccine contain 25 ug, so a tuna sandwich contains about twice the mercury that a vaccine does. However the vaccine is injected directly into the blood stream, you wouldn't want to do that with an entire sandwich.

I think everyone should be doing oral chelation anyway. Safely of course. Metals reentering the bloodstream in high amounts can cause serious problems.

The H1N1 vaccine is offered both with and without Thimerosal, by the way. Although I'm not really sure which one I got.

I've been watching The 4400 for the first time recently, and reading this thread keeps throwing me into fiction world, where "getting the shot" means taking promicin to try to develop a special ability.

Wow I just stumbled across this and had to respond.

I was looking through some old medical records from my youth, and I was vaccinated for the A/NJ, otherwise known as the SWINE FLU in 1976!!!!!

I was living in California at the time at the tender age of 7.

And just so everyone knows, I am a healthy adult with two healthy children and never suffered any effects from the shot.

Was the Threat of H1N1 Flu Exaggerated?

By the summer of 2009, shortly after the H1N1 flu pandemic had first emerged, there was a waiting list for the first several million doses of the forthcoming new flu vaccine. At the head of the line, naturally, were the world's richest nations. "Again we see the advantage of affluence," said Margaret Chan, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), at a news conference on July 14. "Again we see access denied by an inability to pay." Describing H1N1 as "entirely new and highly contagious," Chan scolded rich countries at the time for hoarding the "lion's share" of the global H1N1-vaccine supply.
Six months later, Chan's admonitions seem prescient. Rich countries' hoards have become massive surpluses, and many nations are now trying frantically to cancel pending orders of vaccines or transfer them to poorer nations. France, which had ordered enough of the vaccine to inoculate its entire population of 60 million, has so far used only 5 million doses and now wants to cancel 50 million doses and sell millions more. Similarly, the Netherlands has a 19 million–dose order for sale to other countries, while Germany is in talks with drug manufacturers to halve its order of 50 million doses and sell off millions of others. Switzerland, Spain and Britain are also considering giving away or selling the millions of doses of the vaccine they have received or have on order. The U.S., which has so far distributed 160 million of the 251 million doses it purchased to doctors, hospitals and other health care providers across the country, has yet to make a decision on whether it will have an overflow and what it will do with any surplus. ** MORE IN THE ARTICLE **

But, but, but there was a pandemic. The world was coming to an end. Geez, what a let down. Now we have to wait for Global Warming to do us in.

Oh wait -

Well, there was a pandemic. It just wasn't a particularly dangerous one.

Nevertheless, the danger in such a highly communicable virus is not only in its present effects, but in what traits it could lend to other, more dangerous virii in the future.

The "world didn't end, therefore it must not have been a big deal" mindset is simplistic at best.
