Will you have the Swine Flu shot?

Will you be having the Swine Flu shot

I was finally able to get one this morning - I work at a library and deal with the public - so I was bloody well going to get a shot as soon as I could.

I've been on a waiting list for a while now. Yesterday i got the call that the shots were in and so i am scheduled to go in on monday for mine. I've also got an appt for my daughter (almost 16) to get hers. They just got both shots in (regular flu and h1n1) and i doubt they will give me both at the same time. I am wondering which one i should choose for us if they won't give us both.

anyone know?

I have never been prone to the flu. I've only had it one time as far as I know, because when I was 6, I had Reye's Syndrome, which begins with the flu. I have periodically had little bugs that involved throwing up, but I cannot remember ever having the fever/aches/weakness of the flu. I really don't see any reason to introduce the virus to my system - even the dead virus in the vaccine - when I just don't get the flu. There are others who do need it and should get it, but I just don't think I need it.

Do you know if your clinic offers both the nasal spray and the shot? I was in just yesterday for a nasal mist H1N1 and they told me that I would have to wait a month if I wanted a a seasonal flu mist, but they could give me the shot for the seasonal, so I would ask your doctor what options (if any) are available when you go in.

Ha ha. Isn't that interesting. Told you it was all BS.

WHO to review its handling of H1N1 flu pandemic

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization is to examine its handling of the H1N1 pandemic, the group said on Tuesday, after accusations by some politicians that it exaggerated the dangers of the virus under pressure from drug companies.

The United Nations health agency will review the way it dealt with the outbreak of swine flu once the pandemic has subsided, WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib told a news briefing.
"Criticism is part of an outbreak cycle. We expect and indeed welcome criticism and the chance to discuss it," she said, adding the WHO's review would involve independent outside experts and its results would be made public.
But she said it was too soon to say when the examination would take place or which experts would be involved.
In the latest complaint about the way authorities have dealt with the pandemic, the Council of Europe, a political forum of most European countries, is to determine whether drug companies influenced public health officials to spend money unnecessarily on stockpiles of H1N1 vaccines.
Chaib said the WHO took its work of providing independent advice to its 193 member states seriously, and guarded against the influence of vested interests..... <More in the above linked article>

The generally accepted definition of a Pandemic is where 1 out of 1,000 people in a population is infected. Something that never occurred

They are still playing commercials trying to get people to come down and get injected with a poison. Guess we bought way too much of it.

That certainly occured in Australia where we had 36,991 confirmed cases out of a population of 20 million. The number of actual cases would have been higher as those who were not seriously ill often did not have a test to confirm if whether they had H1N1 or just regular flu.

Australia might have had higher rates than the north hemisphere countries because the disease hit during the Australian winter.

Got it..and am getting my Yellow Fever shot re-boosted..

Am going to Brazil very soon, and H1N1 is rampant there right now...

But heck, I'll probably get eaten by an anaconda anyway..or die in the favella

No. Media hype has fueled a certain hysterical belief that Swine Flu is actually a huge deal. Headlines such as "Swine Flu to Impact 50% of Pop" have been scaring people into buying newspapers, and people are going crazy over the phenomenon; and yet, statistics show that this flu is not any more deadly than regular flu. The outbreak(s) of it have not even come close to producing the number deaths already caused by standard strains. I don't buy the hype.

That said, It has been a long time since I have been sick; I never took shots as a child or adult, and based on all of the above, I have no incentive to go get innoculated over a scare on Nightly News.

Thou art wise. :bolian:

I am not sure if my sons will want to have it.

If you are not going to have it, is this because you don't feel you need to, or is it because you don't approve of vaccinations?

No, I don't trust vacinations. All my relatives who had vacinations early in life (Just look for the tell-tale mark on their upper arms) and regular vacinations all the time are all riddled with medical problems. I don't take vacinations, or even over the counter headache pills, and I'm in great health.

And if your sons don't want them, I say exxcellent

And I know ALOT of nurses who will NOT get their kids vacinated....so that's something interesting to think about.

I got the shot today.

So far, nadda in terms of reactions. I don't even have the muscle ache that usually follows the seasonal flu shot for a few hours.

Eh, the mercury I avoided by never developing the taste for tuna more than makes up for any minuscule quantity a vaccine might contain.

I'm actually a bit surprised at the complete lack of reaction. The last two years, the seasonal vaccine has at least given me chills for about 12 hours. But nothing on this one. Not that I'm complaining.
