Like I do for every movie, I won't flip out, but I will ask anyone who is talking on the phone, talking lots in general, unable to keep their children/ baby under control, etc to knock it off. This past weekend, I was about ready to have a chat with some parents at Gran Torino. It's a good thing that as soon as the movie actually started, they made an effort to leave as soon as the baby started crying.

well for one thing i won't spend money on movie snacks. mostly cause they're overpriced and i can wait two+ hours for a taco later. and where i live i only pay $1.50 for movie tickets. so ha!

Having returned to my hometown after fifteen years overseas (at least temporarily), I'm going to see Star Trek 09 in the same theatre I've seen the last Star Trek movie with the classic crew ('The Undiscovered Country'). I'll try to get together the same bunch of old friends, sit in the same row in the same chair and have the same nibblies (well, not really the same ) for in-between...

How's that for true nostalgia?

My friends and I have all drifted a part, except one. He will join my new 'crew' (that being my Wife, 14 year old daughter, 5 year old son who promises he will be quiet) as we go to TREK 11.

Something similar actually happened when I went to "Wrath of Khan" in the theater, way back in 1982.

About 5 minutes into the film, the guy behind me starts talking. Not just talking, but giving a running commentary on the movie; telling his friend how everything related to the TOS episode, who this guy is, who that guy is, the Klingon footage was re-used from the previous film...EVERYTHING. After about 10 minutes of this I turned around and loudly "shushed" him...and I got a look at him. He was clearly mentally disabled, or challenged, or whatever you want to call it, and was obviously so excited by the movie he couldn't keep his mouth shut.

I felt like such a tool.

The theater was packed (no lie) and the only other seats were way in the back near the walls, so I just hunkered down in my seat and lived with it. I bought another ticket on my way out and came back the next night...making sure the same guy wasn't sitting near me.

some people are going to be really excited and do wierd things. it's okay. I'm just going to accept it as part of the ambiance of getting good Trek on screen again. I'm going back for repeat viewings anyway, so I don't care much.

You settle down into your seat...getting ready for JJABRAMS's Star Trek to rock your world..and then..just as the loud opening score ends...the person next to you starts talking on their cell phone!! or the person two rows up starts texting causing a very very very (Oh I hate this) neon light to shine back at you...

At this point, most theatres I go to have large numbers of audience members who break out in a rousing chorus of STFU.

I hate that but I try not to flip out about it. That makes me a bigger distraction to others than s/he was to me. I will politely request they stop, if they don't, I just try to ignore it.

I kinda hope for a rowdy midnite showing though, that's half the fun of going to those. I will expect a more civil and respectful audience at my next screening.

Exactly..I am trying to talk my wife into going to the midnight showing. I will break out my DS9 outfit, and she will wear her Uhura miniskirt (she still has the legs for it!!)

I saw TMP at a midnight showing when it first came out...still my best TREK movie memory to this day...I remember when the loud DONGGGGG sounded after the credits and those three KLINGON SHIPS come right at us and that great fly over of them....I still get GOOSEBUMPS thinking about it!!!

I remember (The Undiscoverd Country) being my first BIG SCREEN trek event, my entire extended family, Uncles, Aunts, cousins, we all went on opening night and it was a ton of fun!

The only reason I still go to movie theaters, mainly, are for Star Trek movies.

I can't take the idiotic teen thugs that invade our main theater.

Thankfully I don't have that problem at any of my ''Theaters'' there is about 3 in my area.

Something like this happened to me when I went to see ST IV (or was it ST III?). The row behind me was filled with frat boys and the one right behind me decided to harass his pledges during the opening credits. I turned around and yelled very loudly STFU (or words to that effect). I turned back to the front and heard him say very quietly to his friends, "There are twelve of us and one of him." I turned back around and said "Try it." They shut up for the remainder of the movie. I may have been channeling the famous Captain Kirk bluff on the outisde, but inside Captain Drake was expecting the world to go dark any second. Never again!
