Will We See Guinan

So, who do we have, so far?

S1: Data, Riker, Troi, Hugh, Seven.
S2: Guinan.

I thought I heard mention of Gates & Sela upthread. Is that confirmed or just rumor?

I'm glad this news is true. Guinan would be a good person for Picard to confide in like he originally did in the original TNG series on several occasions when he needed her guidance to make the right choices.

Agree. A show about Picard having issues with old age and needing hope and so forth is exactly the place for Guinan to proverbially hit him over the head. She fits in perfect in a story that is a psycologyiical drama about piicard. She kinda put picard back on the right path a few times during TNG.

Just shocking that a TV show would do anything to appeal to fans. Heaven forbid they try to get people to watch!

The horror.
There is a difference between trying to get people to watch and fan service.

And the horror comes when it is used not in service of the story.
I had no issue with McCoy in the TNG pilot, or Scotty's episode (which was pretty good). The Sarek episodes were excellent, and the Spock ones good.
McCoy and Scotty are perfect examples. They do not serve the story, and all they do is show our heroes being old. That's it. Scotty even feels useless aboard the ENT-D. It isn't interesting, doesn't expand the character, and craps on his legacy.

Sarek was good because it made sense as a story. Sarek being a senior ambassador and trying to negotiate something while in failing health makes sense from a character perspective. Spock is more iffy but I can see the argument. Though, going by this thread, the fact that Spock doesn't mention Kirk, or Scotty, or Sulu or McCoy is a grave injustice.

Fan service can be horrible. That's a fact. It's all in the application.

Bashir or the EMH? I assume not the other The Doctor.

See, the thing with Q is, Q is a timeless, immortal being. De Lancie, however, is not. For reasons unknown he is aging.
TPTB had enough problems deaging Spiner back to Nemesis days and they had the golden make-up on their side.
I don't really understand this. He clearly aged between Encounter at Farpoint and Q2. He looked about... 14 years older.

Another 18 years doesn't make any difference.

It's silly.

Q just looks older to mirror Picard and makes a jibe about Jean-Luc's age. Q has to be an inevitability in the show, but only when the story is wrapping up in my opinion. They left it open in All Good Things, the trial never ends...

"If you're an immortal, omnipotent being, why do you look so much older than when we first met?"

"I still look younger than you Mon Capitaine."

Picard's story was bookended and punctuated by Q. He's an integral part of Picard's life and will obviously play a part as his life comes to an end.

Guinan: "What did I tell you when we first met, Jean-Luc?"

Picard: "Depends on which 'first time' you're referring to."

IMHO, the characters with the strongest ties with Picard were Guinan & Beverly.

Data, Riker, Troi, Geordi, Worf, & Tasha were colleagues. But Beverly & Guinan were friends (and more). Ro hurt him when defected.

Q and the Borg were also central.

I guess if you want to throw in some romantic interests (Vash, the one officer who played keyboard), that is fine.

Glad to see Guinan back. Cool to see Gates at the premier.
I think bringing back Ro would be interesting. She disappointed Picard by joining the Maquis, but the Cardassians joined the dominion, so in the end they were right. But Picard still might not have gotten over her betrayal.

Probably won't happen because it's my understanding the actress turned down being on DS9 and her agent even told the producers not to contact them anymore about being on the show.

Michelle Forbes turned down regular roles on DS9 and VOY because at the time she wanted to become a movie actress, and she thought having a weekly series would hinder that. She had no issue with doing occasional guest work on TV though.

Considering her movie aspirations never worked out - and beginning with 24 she began accepting full-time TV roles - I don't think that would hold true any longer. Plus of course any role she had would just be for a few episodes regardless.
