Will we ever get a book about Barclay?

It's just a fancy Lit-snob way of referring to a character's 'inner life', as opposed to the externally observable ways he or she relates to other characters and his/her environment (which, you guessed it, is called 'exteriority').

I'm trying to come back with a line about having an "interiority complex", but I'm stuck.

I would have went with: "I've always wanted to explore the interiority of a sorority." :p

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Maybe if he was part of a team. A group on the run, charged with a crime they didn't commit. Maybe a charming rouge like Okuna. A tough senior officer like Jellico. And a strong man like Worf.

If you can find, if you can afford them, you can hire...

Just remember that unless you're having fun with the idea, please be careful not to post specific plot or novel ideas here.

But if they're in obvious fun, I say have at it!

I'd read that. :D

Worf: Die with honour, fool!

Barclay: You can't die on a holodeck.

Okona: I can do whatever I like with the ladies on a holodeck.

Jellico (with holographic cigar): I love it when a plan comes together :)

Well, Worf does wear a lot of metal draped over his chest... But he's sort of got the opposite of a Mohawk.

Also, I don't think he would be inclined to pity the fools.

how did this brilliant but atypically nervous 24th century Starfleet guy pass through his courses and early career, achieve several promotions in rank, and still not seem to be as confident as everyone else.

Apparently the Peter Principle is alive and well in the 24th century.

^ I don't think so. Barclay's weaknesses are interpersonal; I don't think his technical proficiency has ever been questioned. If anything, the fact that Barclay hasn't made chief engineer might suggest that the Starfleet system works, since that's a position where his social difficulties would be a major obstacle to carrying out his leadership and managerial responsibilities.

^Maybe Reg improved then. From what I remember of him on TNG, not only did he lack interpersonal skills, but his work was considered sloppy and unimaginative for the most part, wasn't it? I wasn't a VOY viewer so I don't know how things panned out for him down the road.

^^What was said was that Barclay never gave his best effort. The implication was that he was capable, but not motivated to live up to his potential.

I also got the impression that his social issues were crippling him, and affecting his work. Hard to be competent when you can't remember to leave the holodeck once in a while!

Honestly, I'd say either Ted or KRAD would be the person for the job. To tell Reg's story you need to be funny. A lot.

BTW: What if young Reg was the exact opposite of the Reg we know? Say while he was still in the academy? he's a genius, after all, a massive overachiever in some ways. What if his phobias and insecurities only manifested once he was out of simulated/classroom situations?

I'm sorry, but my secret crimefighting days are over and -- oh, we're talking about writing?

Well, shucks! Be glad to! (And thanks)

It wasn't Barclay's technical skills that were ever in question. He is a very talented engineer. It's just his social awkwardness that was the problem.
