Spoilers Will they??

The question is will they rewrite Pike's future?
If so, will the writers / powers that be rescue him from Talos after the events of The Menagerie or will they undo the events of his near death completely.

Rescue. I will bet the Talosians somehow fix him after already practicing on Vina. May as well. It's a good character. Though he will have to travel in the future because hes never mentioned again. Unless this is a new timeline than it wont matter. .
Oh and it is indeed 7 years in the future. TPTB said so in an article o read last night. Even though the dialogue keeps making PIke shudder at any mention of 10 years like in episode 2....lol..

For all we know Pike is cured a week after he's left on Talos once the Fed finds a way to reverse delta radiation exposure syndrome, David McCoy style.

Vina's a non issue since they basically retconned her injuries to be as minimal as Gerard Butler's Phantom of the Opera sunburn.

For what it's worth tons of TOS characters aren't ever mentioned again. They can give Pike more material during the TOS movie period or freeze him in carbonite until the 32nd century to rejoin his buddies in Discovery.

If Star Trek had ever cared about its own SACRED CANON from one episode to the next, they'd have hauled Pike - and every other chronic sufferer of any medical condition - off to Omicron Ceti III to be cured in no time by the spores.

Don't give me any "the spores turn you into hippies without work ethic" crap. Kirk figured out how to treat that by the end of "This Side of Paradise" - and medical science accepts far greater risk and more dangerous side-effects to drugs and treatment regimens in order to treat serious illness, every day.

But then, so-called canon meant very little, in practice.

Yet somehow, TOS founded a franchise.

How is beyond me. I mean, they didn't even try in some episodes to acknowledge security personnel dying or holding people responsible. It's like, there was no consistency at all in TOS ;)

Well we can go on and on about canon all day long. But it cannot be denied that they are doing a worse (intentionally) job of it now than ever before. EVERY tv show espcially long running has continuity errors or a bit of retcon. I can name a dozen shows from Bonanza to Leave it to Beaver. But in general in most shows they work and issues were minor. With Star Trek despite visual advancements from Tos to TMP...sorry issues were minor and pretty much easily explained. They did try harder to make things fit.

Thankfully Picard only has ten eps left and to be truthful as much as I wanted other series with 90's Trek characters....I'm now thinking maybe its best to stop with Picard....and let the current prodcuers stay in their DISCO/SNW playground...

The visual differences can still be explained via bridge modules etc. However this latest episode of Discovery threw a wrench into my headcanon that the Cage/Where No Man Has Gone Before uniforms were dress uniforms when Uhura is shown wearing a specified dress uniform that looks nothing like Cage ones. Oh well.

That's hihgly subject

TMP cannot be explained away easily for me. I almost always treat it out of continuity with TOS.

I think that's actually the easiest to explain away. TMP took place years after TOS, a lot can happen during that time. A prequel on the other hand - especially when it's being made decades later - really has a lot to explain. The visuals alone require suspension of disbelief beyond my abilities, but changing technology and "reimagining" characters are just way too much to accept it as happening in the same universe.

TMP took place 3 years after TMP. That's too much for me.

My suspension of disbelief was broken from TOS to TMP to TWOK and never recovered. If I can accept TMP and TOS as same universe then I can accept SNW and TOS as same universe.

Mileage will vary.

No they can't change his fate or this would be a alternate reality. The time Crystal i belive said he couldn't change it. He doesn't die anyway. He just goes to live in Talos IV with Vina. I'm sure number one visits him from time to time.

Picard Season 2
She was refusing treatment, it was mentioned in the episode. You can't force someone to get treatment, it's unethical
[NOT A SPOILER]
I understand that that's the way they explained it away in the show. For many reasons, it's even less satisfying an explanation than Kirk being "allergic to Retinax V" was in TWOK.

It's very unsatisfying in real life too. But that is the way of humans.

Except that's not the way it happens in real life. As XV330 pointed out above, we treat these situations very differently today from the way they treated it in the show.

Dude, it's happening for a friend of mine right now. It does happen in real life.

He pretty much is a 24 hour caregiver for a family member since they refuse any sort of medication or counseling treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have had more than one family member in a similar situation myself, but they were never given the option to simply stay at home and get locked up in a room. I'm sure there are different laws about this in different places, but I think most of us would expect things to be markedly improved by the 23rd century. Just like needing glasses at that stage seems unbelievable.

I would not.

And even if I did expect it to be generally that way I would still expect individual variation to occur.

I want a scene now where Retinax V makes Kirk blow up like the candy-addict blueberry inflated girl in Willie Wonka, and has to be rolled away by singing Dot-5 robots into medical.

That was a cadet dress uniform, and there were no cadets in Cage ;)
