Will there ever be any novels set between 2161 and 2254?

After re-reading The Buried Age, I'd say that there is sill a lot to tell in other inter-series eras, too.

Aside from the Lost Era and the ENT-to-TOS period, I'd like to see more about events between 2063 and 2151 - from the postwar reconstruction to the formation of a united Earth, and from first contact with non-Vulcan species like the Denobulans to the fielding of Starfleet's pre-NX ships.

I'm sure by 2061 we'll get a Trek book that tells us what happens between now and then. Star Trek shows no signs of going away. I just wonder how Trek's 21st century will square away with the real 21st century.

Easily. Since trek's 21st century happens in the trek universe anything they say happened only needs to happen there. There were no Eugenics Wars in the real world, or sleeper ships in the real world. Greg Cox did his best to reconcile the whole Eugenics Wars thing by making them "secret wars".

Basically...It shouldn't be a problem :)

Well, since the Eugenics Wars were "secret," we don't know for sure if they happened or not, just as we don't know for sure if sleeper ships exist.

Personally, I'm waiting for Jesse Ventura to cover these topics on upcoming episodes of Conspiracy Theory.

:shifty:

Jesse "The Body" Ventura. There's someone whose had quite the see-saw career. Wrestler/crap tv host - Governor - back to crap TV host. It'd be great if he reprized his role in the upcoming Predator movie :rommie:

The Kelvin is enough evidence that it's an alternate timeline from the get-go. No way is that ship a product of pre-TOS technology.

Really? How's that? The Kelvin didn't seem any more divergent from the kinds of tech established in "The Cage" than, say, TOS did from the kinds of tech established in TMP.

Let's face it -- Star Trek has never shied away from updating its technology if it started to look outdated by real life standards, and no one's ever claimed that TMP took place in a different continuity than TOS.

Exactly. It's like the Klingons getting better make-up jobs in TMP because the budget finally allowed it. The Kelvin looks different from TOS because STAR TREK was a big budget movie made in 2009. No on-screen explanation is required.

It's just a question of art direction.

Besides, we never saw 2230s starship or uniform design in the Prime universe, so how can we say for sure that there's any inconsistency?

Most of the dimwits who crowed about it having "captured the spirit of the original show" haven't even SEEN the original show in twenty years, if at all.

...

Count me in as one of those dimwits. I've been using that line ever since I first saw the new movie. And, yes, I am somewhat familiar with TOS, having watched it ever since it first aired on NBC . . . .

That was one of the thoughts that made me post my original question. The fourth season of ENT and the post-series novels have done a terrific job of starting to line up with what's to come in the century ahead, but I'd still love to know some of the major events that transpired between the two shows and the evolution of starship tech between the NX-class ships and the Daedalus-class of the mid-22nd century and the construction of the first Constitution-class vessels.

The Kelvin unis are a nice evolution from the ENT-era.

Right. To me, if you remove the visual quality of TOS, going from Enterprise to the Kelvin to the TOS-movie-era Enterprise to TNG, etc, it makes perfect sense. The only problem in the flow is the TOS-TV-era Enterprise, which was made on a tiny budget in the mid 60s. So I don't really get why it's so necessary to say "ALTERNATE TIMELINE!" when you could just say "it would've looked nicer in the 60s if they'd had the money and expertise", and enjoy the goddamn story.

Bingo. You put it much better than I did.

Must disagree. It maybe be that with the insertion of Enterprise into the timeline that the TOS we knew is replaced by something with the look and feel of the JJverse.
Then again, Enterprise was supposed to be in the Prime timeline, so there should be untold stories involved with the transition from season 4 of Enterprise to the Cage and WNMHGB. I believe that the Enterprise novels are starting to bridge that gap.

we don't know for sure if sleeper ships exist.

I have it on very good authority that no one has seen Ricardo Montalban for some time... Mmmm, coincidence.

I wonder if the Icarus Class looks anything like the new refitted NX-class ships?

From the name, I'd think they'd be more an "offspring" of the Daedalus class in terms of design lineage.

Unfortunately, they can't get very close to any sun.

^Well...Final Reflection's basically apochriphal (I...think that's how you spell it) now....

"Apocryphal."

And all Star Trek novels are apocryphal. The Final Reflection is simply out of continuity with later canonical installments and later novels.
