Will the Phase 2 stories ever be published ?

Will the stories from the aborted phase 2 series ever be published ?

I think the closest you're likely to get are the synopses published a fews years back in the Reeves-Stevenses' Phase II book.

I, personally, would like to see the scripts written for that series adapted as short stories or novels.

Especially "Kitumba".

This would probably be better asked in the TrekLit forum, where someone could read it and say that summaries have already been published in books like the one mentioned by Mysterion, as well as unauthorized books like Lost Voyages of Trek and The Next Generation.

Someone else would pop up and mention that former Star Trek books editor John Ordover asked online whether fans would be interested in novels based on Phase II many years ago, but he never moved ahead with the idea and he's been gone from Pocket for years now.

In other words... as much as some of us would love to see such a thing happen, it doesn't look too likely.

I'll move this to Trek Lit. I remember someone posted the script for Kitumba here a couple of years ago (it had to be removed for copywrite reasons, unfortunately), so copies definitely exist. I'm curious about some of the other stories, though Kitumba's not bad.

They can be found. I myself have a copy of both parts of "Kitumba". Would like to eventually lay my hands the rest of them as well.

To go off-tangent a bit. The Phase II scripts are all pretty much out there for purchase on eBay, but "Kitumba" is the only one I've ever actually felt the urge to look for. I spoke via email a few years back with Rod Roddenberry, and asked if his Trek collectibles site would ever offer the scripts for sale as they did the TOS scripts. He replied that they were not interested in doing so.

Sir Rhosis

Before anyone is tempted to do so, please don't post means of "acquiring" the scripts that are undoubtedly floating around.

Aren't the scripts or at least story synopsises part of the Reeves-Stevens's Phase II book?

The R-S book has the scripts for "In Thy Image" (first draft by Harold Livingston) and "The Child", the show bible, and summaries for the other proposed episodes. Other books with summaries are Trek: The Lost Years by Ed Gross and Lost Voyagers of Trek and the Next Generation by "Bill Planer" or Ed Gross and Mark Altman which also has some TOS and TNG stuff.

Other scripts out there are for "Tomorrow and the Stars", "Kitumba I", "Kitumba II", "Deadlock", "The Savage Syndrome", and "Devil's Due".

Some of the thirteen proposed episodes never went beyond story outlines. Trek: The Lost Years and Lost Voyages note as much for "Practice in Walking", "To Attain the All", "Lord Bobby's Obsession", and "The War to End all Wars".

There is a script for "Are Unheard Memories Sweet?" but I've never come across it, and none of the books mention if "Cassandra" went to script or not.

The scipts for "Kitumba I" and "Kitumba II" were posted here 2 or 3 years back. So i'm sure a few posters around here have a copy of them.

"Not interested" in that there are essential legal clearances to pay for, and that the scripts still belong to Paramount, who paid for the scripts' developments. Of course, "The Child" and "Devil's Due" ended up getting used for TNG, and "In Thy Image" essentially became ST:TMP.

When the Roddenberrys' company was still Lincoln Enterprises, they did carry many of the "Phase II" scripts for a very short time in the early 80s, but they had to stop distribution when it was realized the red tape was prohibitive, and it was hard to pay writers for their contributions. James Cawley (Kirk in the "New Voyages"/"Phase II" fan films) once told me, in a post over on the Fan Films section of this bbs, that he definitely remembers buying his own copies frpom Lincoln, and still even has the envelopes they arrived in.

I know I got my several examples ("Kitumba", "Deadlock", and one other, IIRC) as rather high quality bootlegs from a different mail order company, and they were probably copied from someone's bought earlier from Lincoln. (They had a catalogue which offered free scripts to people who had an unlisted script to swap them.

Lincoln did have full permission to sell the "Phase II" Writers' Bible, but Roddenberry himself wrote that.

Pocket once promoted a book ("The Trek That Never Was", or similar title, which was going to synopsize them all, but it got pulled). Again, it's the legal clearances and royalties owed.

Speaking of Cawley and Phase II (the fan series), Jon Povil is now working with the fan series and will, apparently, be adapting and directing his original version of "The Child" for them. (See: http://trekmovie.com/2008/06/28/fan...n-frontier-new-enteprise-fan-production-more/)

They did offer the Phase II writers guide as recently as about eight or nine years ago when I purchased my copy from them.
