Will "The Phantom Menace 3D" bomb?

Haha, I think you're overinterpreting this.

No, it's just basic marketing. You see it all the time when a movie bombs in the theater and suddenly has a different poster image on the DVD (the most recent being the Green Lantern DVD which now features a bunch of colorful aliens who barely even appear in the movie).

Obviously TMP wasn't a bomb, but it's certainly no secret that it wasn't the most loved SW movie ever.

I don't think they need to be worried about anything at all.

Also, never underestimate the younger generation who never even saw the prequels on the big screen, plus the casual fan who thinks "Star Wars is cool" but doesn't dissect it on the internet. There is also the curious "Star Wars in 3D; it might not have been the greatest movie, but that'll look pretty cool" crowd. Not to mention the "I hate it, but I'm going to see it just so I know I hate it" folks. But those are likely few in number. All of those will bring people in and the production will undoubtedly make back whatever the expense was to convert it (ad then some).

The re-release will do fine.

Shit, I do that with movies made 2 months ago. Yet I rave about how good the CGI in Jurassic Park, an 18 year old movie, looks.

I don't know. Must 16-17 year olds I know who see a film made over 2 years ago do nothing but complain about how fake the CGI is.

You're about 10 years past the age for a 'younger generation' seeing this re-release in 3D. I know I'll be taking my five-year-old and I'm sure she'll love it.

Butt pushed back, stomach pushed forward, one hand on stomach, and the other hand holding the Light Saber extremely awkwardly

His hand isn't on his stomach but held out in front in a karate pose. They definitely could have made that clearer though.

Oh I know that. Couldn't pass up an opportunity for a quick one-liner though :)

To be fair, I do like the movie.

I only found out about this 2 days ago but I think I might go see it. The prequels are bigger visual spectacles than the original films and will lend themselves to this a bit more. Have NO desire to see ESB in 3d. It's the "art film" of the series and feels too intimate for this. I'd REALLY like to see AOTC, though. The Couruscant scenes and the battle on Geonosis should look really good.

I don't think the younger generation really gives a shit about Star Wars.

Sure they do with the toys, video games, comics, and cartoons designed straight for them that continue to be profitable. Plus, TPM is the most "kid-friendly" of the series. Sure, they probably have seen it on DVD. But this is in the movie theaters! In 3D! To a kid, that's a big deal.

Jar Jar is already a headache without the 3D.

Not really surprising given that it's a Star Trek movie.

Lets see...the movie has made about a billion dollars since 1999. If only one person sees it, it will still be successful.

I just saw the new 3D poster. I think it's pretty cool. As I said I'll check this out and probably go convince my friends to see it with me. This is from someone who hates 3D as well. Interesting that Anakin isn't featured on the poster and they're heavily promoting Maul this time.
