Will terminator salvation make more than star trek?

Weeell..

Nobody has seen T4 yet but i honestly doubt it can match Star Trek. Perhaps it will be a good movie (the trailers look fantastic) but Star Trek started with such an oomph and has gotten positive reviews almost everywhere so i don't believe it will crash and burn the next week like Wolverine did.

I don't think T4 can match Star Trek because that movie was so eagerly anticipated that Trek lovers have seen it many times now (i'll be going a 2nd time which is a first for me after many years) boosting sales and word of mouth is excellent for Star Trek adding to its earnings.

I believe Star Trek will easily crack 400 million dollars.

I don't know, there haven't been as many T4 ads as Star Trek ads.

It won't beat Star Trek's opening, but I think it will make more money over a longer period of time.

I think Star Trek will have the legs, instead. I am going next week and if it's as good as I hear I'll go again in a couple weeks. Such a large fan base bodes well for its endurance, IMO.

I've seen just as many if not more T4 ads than ST ads. I'm sick to death of seeing the T4 trailer over and over and over...

Star Trek may make more domestically, but I have no doubt that T4 will make more worldwide.

Respectfully beg to differ. At one point, just prior to the advent of cable tv, I saw a study that determined someone, somewhere in the world was watching Star Trek(TOS) every second of every day. It was a compiled list of broadcasting schedules that they based this on. Now that's an international fanbase-and all of those people(if they were kids) are about 40 now. Ideal movie-goers in terms of income. And they have kids. I'm betting ST will kill overseas. But let's hear from the Aussies, Brits, Europeans, and any Asian/Indian posters-what do you all think?

I'm predicting No. I'm thinking a Terminator movie without Arnold is not going to draw the numbers a lot of people are expecting it will.

Star Trek opened day and date in most of the major international markets. It opened to respectable but not spectacular numbers. The $35.5 million international opening points to an international gross of more than $100 million but definitely less than $200 million (and it'll likely be less by tens of millions of dollars).

T3, on the other hand, made $283 million from international markets (almost two-thirds of its $433 million worldwide gross). And I think T4 is going to gross more than T3.

arnold being in the last on was a joke. The terminator chick was a joke.John conner was a joke.Christian Bale...has his name on arguably the most famous movie ever.I think he's gonna be amazing as well as the whole movie.I wonder what the perfectionist James Cameron will think of it?This to me is kinda like a re-boot knowing that with Christian Bale people have to ignore the last complete disgrace of a terminator movie and take this one seriously. This is the next best thing to a new star wars movie.Lets go salvation!

I don't think so...I think it will get pretty close, though.

Arnold not being in Terminator turns a lot of people away from it. I think it looks like a good movie but I would probably be more excited about it if Arnold was in it.

Part 3 was trash so that probably turned even more people away from it.

Then, you get the wuss "I am not seeing this movie because Christian Bale is an asshole" people who need to get a life.

Tough call. Honestly, to me it doesn't feel like there's been as great an anticipation for Terminator: Salvation as there's been for Star Trek -- at least in terms of media exposure, anyway. Yet Terminator may have more mainstream appeal -- there's probably still a fair number of moviegoers (teenage ones, specifically) that won't see Star Trek because of the "nerd factor" of the fanbase, whereas Terminator films have often been popular with the younger set, as well as older crowds. It is, however, entirely possible that Terminator's appeal has eroded somewhat over the past few years... We shall have to wait and see.

Replace Star Trek(TOS) with Gilligan's Island but ratchet to numbers up a bit :vulcan: The Trek fanbase isn't as big as you would like to think it is.

Not having Robin in the last two "Batman" movies didn't hurt them and neither did the lack of campy humor. I wouldn't go writing it off so quickly just because Ah-nold won't be in it. So long as the story and action are good, word of mouth will deliver.

I think its ok to be nerd for the young people nowadays, at least in Europe, but if they are trekkers - no, the young were not raised by trek. Most would not be able to name one captain or doctor from the series if asked.

So even though Salvation may be all fx and action and not much plot (and not anything like the excellent tv series) it will surely make more money.

Nobody likes Robin, lol.

Just imagine a movie about Robin....with no Batman. That is kinda what a Terminator movie without Arnold is to me.

I certainly don't think it will hurt the movie terribly, I just think more people would anticipate it more if Arnold was in it. I'm a fan of the Terminator movies and will see it, regardless, but, like I said, I'd probably be more excited about it if Arnold was in it.

Honestly, if Arnold were in it, people would be saying, "Isn't he a bit *old* for this?" I know I would.
