Will StarTrekOnline happen?

I hope this isn't dead.

It does say, "coming soon", is this still possible? Or is it just an empty tease?

I don't think it will happen. On the off chance it does, it seems it will be like a crappy(ier) version of Second Life, where you buy things to get special permissions in the virtual world. That just sounds like a bad idea to apply to a game.

After all of these years, I won't say no, but I'm not planning on playing in my life time.

I would put the chances on this VAPOR ware game at less than 20 percent.

Look the message forum at StarTrek.Com.

I very much doubt it. I've always thought that the Trek universe just doesn't work particularly well for a MMO anyway. The rigid structure of Starfleet (or the Klingon Defense Force or Romulan Empire etc) doesn't seem to fit the game style.

It'll happen right after you get all of the children in the world to clap their hands at the same time.

I think its safe to assume STO is dead, and after the disaster that was Legacy and encounters its also a safe bet that the official trek gaming franchise wont see any movement until we see just how well the new movie does next year.

MMOs are amongst the most expensive and manpower-intensive games to create and maintain. Blizzard's World of Warcraft (MMORPG) team consists of ~150 people, in contrast to their Starcraft II (RTS) team of ~40 people. Once things start shaking, it's usually only a matter of time until the wheels fall off completely. STO is dead.

So are you saying this is free like Guild Wars or is your statement just meant to be funny by itself?

I chuckled, but I'm honestly out of the loop on this game. Is it anything like CoH/CoV?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes there will be a monthly charge but at present that info has not been released yet, but thats about all i know, i have never played or payed for one of these type of game simply becuase of the monthly fee.

Interesting in theory, but I'm just not sure they can pull off Trek Online in a way that actual Trek fans would appreciate. Harry Potter is a universe much more suited to a MMORPG, so here's hoping the latest Potter Online rumors are true.
