Will Series 7 start sooner than we think?

I was working on the assumption that Who would return some time in October, and I think a few other people thought likewise, but SFX have reported that the series opener will be premiered at the Edinburgh tv festival between 23rd/25th August. As SFX point out, it's unlikely they'd show it if it wasn't going to air relatively soon afterwards?

Last Saturday in August/first Saturday in September anyone?

Makes sense to me as that's when the second half of Series 6 began, plus it corresponds more or less with the start of the US fall season as well for BBC America's purposes.

That does seem to suggest there's likely to be a lengthy mid-season gap with the Christmas special in the middle. Again, that makes sense.

Having said all that, the source is the Guardian newspaper. I'll feel more comfortable once either the Festival organizers or the BBC confirm.

Seems a bit of a strange time, the sun will be splitting the tree's and most people will be out enoying it.....why not keep Who till late Sep or even early October....take advantage of those dark cold winter nights.

I just looked at the dates again and we're probably looking first week of September for broadcast because the Olympics will still be on when the festival is held so I doubt there'll be a "next day broadcast" which is I think what happened with Let's Kill Hitler last year when it debuted at the same festival. They might also wait a few more days to clear the Labor Day weekend in the US and Canada if they want to synch up the broadcasts again (unless BBCA and Space decide to do DW marathons, of course).

At least this time around the gap will have the Christmas special so that'll break things up a bit.

As far as the "odd time" comment above, it makes more sense than debuting it in the spring like they did the first 5 seasons, at a time when people are just coming out of winter and the last thing they want to do is watch TV on a Saturday night. It's been proven that whenever the UK enjoyed good weather on the spring Saturdays DW's ratings dipped.

If they're smart they'll schedule the "back 8" to begin airing in February when it's likely to be 40-below.

So I guess I just imagined the huge ratings success of those first four series, with the show pullling in over eight million plus viewers even as late as June?

ignore skidoo, he keeps coming out with these statements and little to back it up. i mean, the Olympics won't be on in August when they run 2 weeks and start in JULY! so if he can't get that right...

Half right, The Paralympics are 29th August to 9th Sept. Not that I know how much will be broadcast, or if the BBC even have the rights. But if it did get in the way that means no earlier than the 15th for possible broadcast.

The Paralympics are being covered by Channel 4. And frankly they usually don't have the same drawing power as the main games. It's certainly not something I'd worry about scheduling against. It'll get good figures for Channel 4, but even then I doubt it'll regularly top 4 million.
