Will Sarek have pointy ears?

We know that "Discovery" will be altering the look of established aliens. The Klingons being the most famous example of that idea. Do you think they would even do that with the Vulcans, via the Sarek character? To me it seems like the Vulcans would be one species that you can't touch because of how iconic their look is, but to me that was how I felt the modern Klingon look had also become and that didn't stop them in that regard. I also wonder if they might get a minor alteration but when your dealing with pointy ears i'm not sure what else you can do. I think a more likely change would be to simply give Vulcans more diverse haircuts so they don't all look like they go to the same barber.

Hell, for some reason TPTB decided to give the Romulans a distinction from the Vulcans when TNG came around... I hate the updated Romulan look and glad that Star Trek 09 did away with that.

Who knows what they might do or change with the rest of the alien make ups.

I would think the Vulcans would stay pretty much as they always have been. There's no reason or need to change them. They're the most iconic Trek alien thanks to Spock.

Question is answered. I'm tempted to close the thread.

I know you have to make your ambitious threads-per-month quota but can you just try a little harder making them relevant and worth discussing?
I'm confused. Has their been a picture of the new Sarek in costume? I know the actor they have chosen to play Sarek but that is all the info I have seen on the character. I'm not even sure if they have stated that they will still present Vulcans as being logical and having suppressed emotions or if they are going to try something new much in the way how Klingons went from Russian methphor's to Viking warriors over time.

You don't have to start a thread for every question that pops into your head. Especially when there's really no basis for us to discuss this on. There have been no pictures, there have been no statements, Vulcan ears are kinda iconic. There's just nothing we can base our discussion on.
The way it is now the question just attracts trolling comments that don't take it seriously.

I know it's kinda your shtick to start tons of threads in every forum but try a little harder please.

Comments to PM.

Are you telling me nobody is curious about how the Vulcans and Sarek who is a established character is going to be written in a show that is part of the Prime universe but also something of a reboot as well? Then we add in the fact that we saw another version of Sarek in the Kelvin Universe and also you got to wonder were Amanda is going to be handled and I think their is lots of intresting things to think about.

Which part of "Comments to PM" did you not understand? ;)
I'm happy to talk to you about this, but we shouldn't derail a thread that's already on very weak rails.

When it comes to "reboot" I assume they mean the look of uniforms, sets, ships, etc, will be tweaked and may end up different to what we got, but the show itself will still follow the Prime timeline, so canon characters and events will occur as they always have in accordance to the era the series is set.

As such Vulcans will always have pointed ears, Klingons (whether bumpy or not) are warriors, etc.

I'd heed the advice of the Mod if I were you and consider just what topics you want to post next. The minutia of the series is just speculation at present, as we still don't know much about the bigger picture until the next major press release from CBS. Whilst it might be interesting to debate the little things, why not start one thread for everyone to contribute all the nitty-gritty little details to obsess over, from the length of the uniform trousers, to how pointed the men's sideburns will be, to if female character will have loose of bun hairstyles.

Why not? Sarek is a popular character and Vulcans are Trek's most famous alien race. Not to mention that how the Vulcans are portrayed will impact how we might see Spock if they ever use that character on the show or even how it might impact how we see Nimoy's version of the character.

Jason

You were asking if anyone was curious if/how he'd be written into the show. I'm not. If they have a story that needs a Vulcan diplomat of some clout and influence they'll write him into it, if things are more focused onboard the Discovery then I doubt he'd show up. As I mentioned before, we don't know enough about the premise or structure of Discovery to make judgements as to how the characters will fit in to the plots.

You might as well be asking if T'Meni will feature as Sarek's attaché.

If this is minutia then what isn't minutia? Speculation is all we have to go on to make any conversation about. Nothing here is any different from what happened when "Enterprise" was getting started or whenever a new movie is about to come out. This is a natural way of being when you are part of nerd culture.

Does anyone know why they are doing this? Can someone point me to a link? Sounds like change for the sake of change.

No, there really isn't. As Emilia said, it's extremely unlikely that they're going to mess with a simple but iconic thing like pointy Vulcan ears, especially not on an established character. The alternate version of Sarek you cite also had pointy ears.

Besides all that though, what is there to discuss? There's no evidence of any changes one way or the other, so it's all just speculation, and most answers could simply be of the yes/no variety, which doesn't exactly make for interesting discussion.

I've asked you multiple times in Miscellaneous about using quality over quantity when judging what new threads to post, so to find you here arguing the point when asked politely to stop by the mod is rather annoying, especially after she instructed you to take your comments to PM.

So, infraction for spamming and disobeying mod instructions. Comments to PM.

Choose your new threads more carefully from now on, Jayson. This wasn't even of a comedic variety. It was just bland and pointless. Closed.

There is no basis for speculation when there are zero indications that they are going to change something as iconic as Vulcan ears.

We can all throw around random statements but this isn't the foundation of a productive conversation.

I can make up random threads like this, too:
"Will Starfleet uniforms have sleeves? Discuss!"

I'm closing this.

ETA: Posting at the same time as @Locutus of Bored. :D
