Will next Star Trek movies stay in the alternate universe?

Whether we like it or not, this will be the universe future films are set in. Until in several sequels time, the cast gets too old, the Ticket sales drop, and they reboot it again.

That wont happen. General movie goers will tire of it way before these actors turn 40. I guess 3 or 4 movies and thats it. There wont be anymore reboots. Im sure Trek will either end after these movies or we will see another movie or series set in the proper timeline.

If they have any commercial sense, yes they will keep it in the new universe. It means people don't have to memorize 40 years of backstory if they don't want to.

:techman: Agreed. The 'canonistas' should be happy that part of dialog in the film establishes this is a new universe and the film is infinitely better than we've seen come out of the franchise in a long, long time

I believe someone (senior Spock?) also mentioned the year in the 24th century where he/Nero came from. It was way after the end of VOY.
