In this post, you are clearly stating that religion is the opposite of evolution. What does this mean? This means that you believe that geniuses cannot be religious. They are holding you back. Many brilliant scientists throughout history have been Christians or of another religion. Give evidence that America is being destroyed by religion. Give proof. Then both sides can participate in a serious discussion. I am serious. I am interested in discussing this, but I cannot respond to something as vague or as unsupported as your opinion that religion is causing the human race to go backwards.
Knowledge isn't the only way in which societies progress. Ethics is another way. Some organized religions get in the way of ethics, such as blocking terminally ill people from requesting medical assistance to die a more dignified death on their own terms.
Earlier this year, the Legislature in my province was debating a bill to allow doctors and pharmacists to refuse not only to accommodate such requests, but also to refuse to refer the patient to another medical practitioner/pharmacist who would be okay with it. That is unethical, and the debate was interrupted by a veteran committing suicide on the steps of the legislature... because he was in considerable distress, was unable to get the help he needed from the government (he wanted medical assistance in dying (MAiD))... and so he took his own life.
Did the government learn anything from this? Of course not. They're still bleating about "conscience rights" which the doctors and pharmacists already have (the legislation wanted to take it farther).
Trying to pin all religious people as bad, is...guess what? Bigotry...
So is trying to pin all atheists as immoral. Yet that's what some of the cabinet ministers in my provincial government do, along with some really obnoxious parents of Catholic-school kids: "Prayer should be mandatory in all schools, including public, because kids have to learn their morals
somewhere."
They seriously think that public schools are immoral places. Both the Minister of Education and the Minister of Advanced Education have gone on record saying this (in the latter case, he used the phrase "immoral, radicalized ideology").
So yeah, I'm not fond of religion interfering with government, education, health care, and the courts.
