So with word that Comcast is indeed to buy the majority stock of NBC Universal, the first question I want answered is this...

Will they admit Leno @ 10 was a stupid move and knix the fat-chinned-one finally, and restore 10 pm to drama rather than celebrifest?

I, for one, think they will. Leno @ 10 was a desperate move by NBC, and everyone knows that. The ratings are continuing to sour ever more. There is no reason now to keep it.

I think it all depends on if they can get out of the contract. Last I heard, there was a pretty iron-clad contract between NBC and Jay Leno, guaranteeing him a full two years, five nights a week, in that slot. They'd probably have to mutually agree to less (or cancellation), otherwise, it'll be a long two years for NBC.

I hope so! NBC affiliates are having problems with lead-in to their late news because people aren't tuning in Leno.

Considering the Comcast deal will most likely take a year to OK I'll worry about that in a year.

30 billion is a deal though.

They're keeping Jeff Zucker as head of the new venture, so I really doubt much will change.

I don't know what the rules are, but I think the affiliates are going to start dumping Leno whenever possible before NBC cancels the show.
If Leno has any chance of saving the show he needs to completely re-tool his format. Not only is he not funny, which is nothing new, the show is difficult to watch.

They can't. NBC Universal threatened NBC Boston. Boston said they weren't going to show Leno and instead do 90 minutes of news. NBC Parent said no, if Boston station tried tried that NBC Parent would launch their own NBC Boston and cut the other channel from showing NBC shows.

As others have mentioned before, the only real change I see coming is the death of Hulu; I don't see Comcast agreeing to keep it around when it directly competes with their own Fancast.

Leno is alright, but he's no Jon Stewart.

Conan is flailing and Letterman is on his way out. Perhaps this is the end of the late night talk shows.

If canceling Leno would in any way increase the chances of getting Rex Is Not Your Lawyer onto the airwaves, then have it, Comcast!

Joy

NBC would do well to scrap all 10pm shows till they can sort out there 8 & 9 ones. Comcast I must question why they did this deal in the 1st place they could end up regretting it.

Letterman is on his way out.

Uhm, actually, Letterman is currently the top dog of the late-night airwaves, and this year alone he's enjoyed a tremendous boost in ratings, popularity, and a resurgence of relevance.

His bitch-slapping of McCain for standing him up in 2008, and his on-going semi-feud with Sarah Palin, plus the blackmail case, have all been very good for him. Whatever audience he's lost from the Palin-fan camp, he's made up in duplicate.

And they will get bored of him soon enough.

The whole concept of late night, post news shows like letterman and conan really is dead as is. It really just sticks around because it's what's always been there, so no one knows what to put into it's place.

These shows are just boring now...I think you will see less of the talk in the future and more show.

Jay should of just retired.

Ummm... The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Best Late Night show around.

QFT.

Nobody else on the air right now can hold a candle to this guy. Leno's a little better than Letterman (totally unfunny...maybe would've done better as a hard-news reporter than a comedian), but both of them look like amateurs compared to Ferguson.
