Will Christine Chapel be in the next movie ?

There has been nothing so far to indicate that Chapel will be in the movie.

Well, it doesn't look like anyone has been cast as Chapel (as per the TrekMovie casting list). But I wouldn't be surprised if we see a nurse on McCoy's side with the name Chapel. I'm sure she won't have a crucial part though.

Wasn't her reason for being assigned to the Enterprise not stated as for the sole puprose of finding Dr Roger Korby, how long was Chapel actually on the ship before we first saw her in the first season?

How could Chekov have a major part in this film, but Chapel and Rand not?

The Big 7 was pretty much established in the Harve Bennett films, but it was actually the Big 8 (with Chapel included) during TOS.

I think because the general public has a passing familiarity with the seven characters, but not with Chapel, and certainly not Rand.

Might be nice to see Chapel, but I doubt it will happen.

But that would be odd, having Chekov there but not Chapel?

I mean, we are not talking about hand prints and signatures in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre here...

True. But I'll bet if you asked random people on the street, they'd be more likely to remember the name Chekov as a character in ST than Chapel. -- RR

Not at all. Chekov was a much more memorable and fun character.

It would have been odd if Chapel and Rand were in it but no Chekov. I'd bet a lot of people on this board don't even know who Chapel and Rand are. Half of them don't even realize that Majel was the voice of the computer in TOS. But I'm sure most everybody knows Chekov, and probably don't even know he wasn't an original cast member.

From the nitpicking point of view, as said, Chapel was mentioned as having come aboard Kirk's ship for a specific purpose. It would be a major coincidence if the paths of the two crossed at some earlier point. And it would be rather odd if McCoy had a "personal nurse" who'd follow him around the galaxy.

And Rand seemed to be news to Kirk in "The Corbomite Maneuver"; it even sounded that before that episode, Kirk hadn't worked closely with any female in his role as starship commander, and apparently hadn't had a female personal yeoman, and certainly hadn't met Rand earlier on (or at least wouldn't admit to knowing her). Rand would also (supposedly) be so much younger than our main heroes that their paths shouldn't cross at the Academy or on early assignments.

But of course we could have brief cameo-type appearances if and when the movie features scenes from Kirk's assuming command of the Enterprise. Theoretically, Chapel could have come aboard at that time already, as could Rand and Chekov, even if our main heroes didn't yet know them very well.

My personal theory: I always thought that McCoy and Chapel might have known each other before McCoy started as CMO on the Enterprise. Then McCoy takes leave for Joanna's graduation and the Enterprise goes "Where No Man Has Gone Before".

McCoy bumps into Chapel while on Earth and tells her the upcoming 5YM is slated to take the ship into the territory where Dr Korby, Chapel's fiance, went missing. and she decides to take the position as his head nurse.

That'd certainly go down more easily than having Rand tag along with our heroes since their Academy days. (Or perhaps she's an old flame of Kirk's, enlisting in hopes of continuing an ill-fated affair? But Kirk always seemed to prefer more mature-looking women.)

Personally, I'd enjoy the movie more if it left out some TOS elements and characters, including some pretty central ones, and only introduced them in the hugely successful sequel...

Therin:

I can buy that. It always seemed like McCoy and Chapel were close professionally, so it wouldn't stretch credibility too much if this were put into their backstory.
