WIll any old classes of starships appear? (Daedalus, please)

Since the U.S.S. Reliant was more or less cobbled together from parts of the TMP U.S.S. Enterprise, we can take an educated guess how the Abramsverse U.S.S. Reliant might look like...

Well, aye... I'm sure JJ would pervert and ruin the Daedalus design just as much as he did for the Enterprise. Nothing is safe in this film.

ah yes, Abrams' anti-midas touch... but really, isn't any modification and adjustment to anything just another "perversion" as you would have it? anything is possible in the Star Trek fantasy universe. if there exist alien worlds that have faithfully recreated pulp fiction/nazi germany/gangster chicago, i think modifications to star trek's aesthetics are well within the realm of believability.

watching star trek is like reading a novel. you have to imagine it for yourself. fill in the gaps where you want. suspend your disbelief. understand that no set design ever will live up to your imagination

The Daedalus is the ugliest piece of shit spacecraft ever built,

No one knows what the Daedalus looks like canonically.

The identification of the Jefferies "globe ship" with the Daedalus class is based on two things: an image of a Greg Jein model so identified in an official Star Trek reference book, and the later appearence of that model in Sisko's office on DS9.

Nothing in an official Star Trek reference work is "canon" until and unless it's used in a Trek television show or film - that's according to the authors of those reference works, among other sources.

The model in Sisko's office was never referenced as a "Daedalus." It was just an unidentified ship model (which supposedly bore the never-visible markings of the "Horizon").

So, Abrams or future filmmakers could design any vessel they like and pronounce it to be a "Daedalus class" ship without contradicting anything in canon.

On a sidenote, that Church fellow should really be getting some more credit or hate. :p

I don't think Abrams really designed any Star Trek ships.

Also, maybe we should be asking for some new starships too, next to the old ones. Expand the thing a bit, see something else... Just a crazy thought.

personally i'd prefer that the old, ugly ball and cylinder ship, whatever its class, make an appearance, even in passing. i love the hideous thing.

It absolutely was not "cobbled" together. Anyone who has tried to convert a Enterprise model to the Reliant would certainly straighten you out there.

The Reliant was custom built by ILM. Even the Nacelles are nothing like the Enterprise ones except in shape.

Of course, I didn't mean it in a LITERAL sense. I only meant that the STYLISTIC elements of both ships (saucer, bridge dome, nacelles et al.) were BASICALLY the same.

[Jeez, what a collection of sensitive souls around here! You can't even think aloud without somebody taking offense...]

Hi. Welcome to the Star trek fandom. You must be new around here.

I'm no Star Trek noob (quite on the contrary, since I saw TOS when it was first aired in Germany in the early 1970s), but I'm absolutely new at TrekBBS (the internet's most frequently visited open-to-all-comers psychiatric ward, as it seems)...

I found that German Sci Fi forum much much worse.

That's probably undoubtedly (and sadly) true... Leave it to the Germans to suck the last quantum of fun out of anything (I must know - I've was born in Germany and I lived more than half of my life there)!

But back to the topic, shall we?

I too thought it was too much off topic so I deleted it

on topic: I still hope this will neither be an ENT sequel nor a TOS prequel, but a remake/reboot
That would mean: Deadalus: HECK YEAH, but a redesigned one who would look more like the TNG Pasteur or something.

Oh guys, you wouldn't believe it, but Abrams ran over my dog last night. He was three sheets to the wind, and when he got out of his Porsche, he kicked my dog and said, "That's what you get for denting my fender!"

Stop badmouthing Mr. Abrams. He will save Star Wars I tell you!
