WIll any old classes of starships appear? (Daedalus, please)

Big fan of Daedalus, personally. Hope it makes a cameo.
Kinda doubt it, sadly. I would like to see some other kinds of Federation starships beyond just the Enterprise and Kelvin, though.

I think they're trying to make this movie a little to sexy for something that looks like the Daedalus, though. I think its a great design, but most people these days are used to seeing "sexy" starships with little regard for any small measure of utilitarianism or realism.

I'd like to think that maybe we will see a starfleet acadamy chart in the background that has a ''Evolution of starfleet design'' and it will have everything from the ''Constoga, Neptune, NX, & Daedalus'' maybe all the way up to even the NU-ENT!

A Daedalus would be rather cool:

Maybe one could come to pick up the Kelvin survivors? I kinda doubt it, but it would be cool.

I've always felt that the Daedalus was awkward and unwieldy, but I don't begrudge those fans who want to see it in the movie.

But if the Daedalus was launched in the early 2160's & the attack on the Kelvin happens in the 2240's wouldent all of the Daedalus class be retired by then?

Yep.

And anyway, I think it's important to point out that we actually have no idea what the Daedalus even looks like. That model in Sisko's office was never identified as to class. We know there is a class of that name, and we also know there's a ship that looks like that, but the two haven't yet been connected onscreen.

Oh I don't know... They still have all those excelsiors in the 2360s.

To paraphrase Buffy Summers in one episode, 'A world of no.'

The Deadalus is the ugliest piece of shit spacecraft ever built, and it was a good thing that the production company didn't use it for the Enterprise, but used the one we all know and love so well. had they used it as the design of the NX-01 on Enterprise, it would have been laughed off of the screen; then the biggest complaint would have been how ugly the ship is in addition to all the other whinning and bitching about Enterprise. The producers want beautiful ships, not ugly shit made of metal that will be derided. Remember, this is Star Trek, not Star Wars.

So no, let the ships stay the way they are, with maybe just a glimpse of NX-01 as a model on Kirk's desk in his dorm room.

Funny...

I look at the Kelvin, and do NOT think "sexy".

It looks sort of lumpy to me.

No.

The Mirandas are INCREDIBLY dated, yet we saw god-knows how many on DS9, during the Dominion War, not to mention that the Oberth is still used in the DS9 time. Indeed, we even saw Klingon D-7's and K'Tinga's, on DS9. A Daedalus-Class in TOS time would not at all be unusual.

... but would they show the original or nuTrek-modernized versions of the Miranda- and/or Deadalus-classes (if at all, which I doubt)? The U.S.S. Enterprise herself had a make-over after all.

Well, aye... I'm sure JJ would pervert and ruin the Daedalus design just as much as he did for the Enterprise. Nothing is safe in this film.
