So what seasons were brilliant?

If I have to limit myself to Star Trek, TOS season 1. I enjoy Star Trek. It’s fun, relatively mindless entertainment. But it is rarely brilliant.

I will agree with you on that. Season 1 of TOS is brilliant.

There must be some serious deus ex machina coming up in episode 10 to save the whole of Starfleet in 1 hour! If they bring Q back it will ruin the one aspect of Season 2 that made it tolerable. Janeway coming in to save everyone would be typical Janeway, but it's unlikely. Its looking more and more like Traveller Wesley will appear from the higher realms of existence and proclaim himself to be the new Q and say sorry to his mum. And when Picard starts monologuing about how its impossible, Wesley can finally get his paypack and tell JLP to cram it.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised by anyone showing up in the finale aside from Sisko/Avery Brooks.

I do take Matalas at face value when he says no Janeway, Chakotay or O’Brien. But it could be a smokescreen. We’ll know in a few days.

Janeway coming in to save everyone would be typical Janeway, but it's unlikely.

Feels more like a Riker thing, but seeing as he's already with them, he can't this time. Seriously after Picard S1 followed by LDS S1, I kind of wish they'd made it an even longer running joke. I was certainly hoping for it happen at the end of Prodigy S1.

He doesn't even have to save the day, he could just randomly show up at the end of any season like These Are The Voyages.

But I bet if we see him again, it'll be a flashback from Season 2 with him arranging something of importance to Season 3.

Hell, maybe he meets Jack somewhere and they do business? Maybe that's where he got the vial of stuff that helped hook Soong in 2024?

Shatner would be the mind blowing one.

They missed out on an opportunity to reinforce the theme of family this season by having Q's son show up instead of deflating Season 2's arc for Q.

Unless he really didn't know what was happening to him because the Continuum left him in the dark until it was time to start another trial?

Whatever. I was just happy to see John de Lancie (probably) one last time as Q.
