The more I look at the Wii I-PadI can't help but feel it looks way to big to hold for a while and to get your hands around it from the sticks to the buttons.
According to Regi, the U is a reference to the hardcore gamer.I'm kind of disappointed, to be honest. I think it looks rather ridiculous, not that the original controller didn't of course, but it almost feels as if they didn't really think it through well enough. What made the Wii so successful was its simplicity. It was something anyone could easily pick up and play as it wasn't too intimidating. They opened up new opportunities for older people and people that weren't used to playing in general. This on the other hand feels like they're adding a layer of complexity, something I can see older people being intimidated by. The barrier is the added technology between the player and the console which from seeing here looks less accessible. Of course, it will also use the other type of controller made popular by the Wii, with this controller being an extension of that, but I'm not really sure it's really needed.
And what does Wii U stand for exactly? I mean, I get that the two ii's symbolizes two people playing, but what about the U?
cant the ps3/psp or ps3/psvita already do what the wii-u is going to do? the mature games they showed, were just ports, so if you dont mind waiting a year, have fun.
i am curious about the storage solution and their online situation is going to be like.
why should they? It's a great idea. Perhaps technology has advanced to the point where they can do great things with it.Wow, so after the whole GBA connectivity fiasco Nintendo STILL hasn't given up on the idea huh? Looks horrible to me, but then again I thought the Wii was horrible and it sold like hotcakes. (I still think it's a horrible console though.)
Anyways, looks like it has alot of potential. I don't buy the argument that it is too complex for the "casual gamer" that joined up with the Wii. It has the potential to be as complex as a 360 or as simple as an iPad. The direction it goes is up to the developer and what kind of game they wan't to make. Who knows, maybe we can get both hardcore and casual games on one console? Stranger things have happened.

I wonder if they will implement their own version of the gamer card/score/trophy/achievement thing in this new console.

It probably can't if only because every ps3 doesnt come packed with a PSP. That alone prevents developers from truly experimenting with PSP/ps3 connectivity.

actually, the psp/ps3 can do it... it's called remote play and it was working back with the game lair. Sony can probably launch the same wii-u tech demos on the PSN (assuming it's up) in a month or two.
i dont believe nintendo is going after hardcore gamers. it's a neat cover story, a smart way to build up cred with the gaming "journalists" and fanboys. but, rewatch the reveal demo real

besides zelda and mario, what says hardcore? wii-fit? drawing a picture? reversi/othello?
honestly, nintendo is going after casuals again. nothing wrong with that, but we should at least be honest.
we've all seen this song and dance before.
I just read Nintendo Shares fell as the Wii U was announced
my point with the psp/ps3, it can be done and it has been done. right now it has a larger install base than the wii-u, and will maintian that lead until the wii-u launches in 18 months.
